This only happens when you hover over a user who protects their updates.
Twitter uses Basic Authentication to protect API calls to fetch data about
such users, rather than returning a JSON message that we can handle.

Next, when you're on a page you want to share to Facebook using bitly, click
the Info Bookmarklet, then click the Share on Facebook button that is near
the top of the overlay that appears.

Ryan, how exactly do you envision a wordpress plugin working? Would you just
want all the links in the body of each of your posts to be bit.ly URLs?
We've been listing out a few features we're thinking about for WP plugins,
but if you have ideas we'd love to hear them.

Hi,

You raise some very valid points, and we share your concern.

We're currently checking URLs against the SURBL spam blacklist (http://surbl.org/) and also Google's Safe Browsing (http://code.google.com/apis... which flags malware and phishing sites.

While these two approaches proven very successful so far, we're always looking for ways to improve the service even more.

Of course!

The missing title bug should now be resolved. Where there is no title we either show the original URL, or the file name for direct links to images and mp3s.

We also just added a new "feedback" link on the right hand side of the screen - hopefully this will make it even easier for folks who want to reach out to us. Thanks again for using bit.ly!

Sorry to hear you don't like the new bit.ly. We're constantly trying to improve the product, and don't always get it right.

We recently discovered a bug with the copy feature that affects users who have been updated to the latest version of Flash. We're working on a fix for this.

We're also adding a "Shorten Again" link which I think will address the second issue you raise. The suggestion about checking to see if something is short enough already is a good one, and something we can look at possibly adding in the future.

Agreed, trying to see if there's an easy way to tweak - we're currently the Google Visualization API to generate these. Might end up switching to something else.

Questions #1 and #2 are addressed below in a response to Brendan's questions. We just pushed live support for browsing of your full history (signed in users only) as well as adding the ability to delete items from your history. Please let us know what you think!

We're working on a new implementation of custom shortcuts that will allow signed in users to create and edit keywords within their own name space. Example: http://brendan.bit.ly/1. Ultimately this will be expanded to include support for CNAMES to bit.ly. Example: CNAME s.brendan.com points to bit.ly which would allow creation of bit.ly hashes taking the form of http://s.brendan.com/1. Once these changes have been made, we'll update the bookmarklet to include shortcuts into the work flow.

There are a number of ways to reach us - this blog, Twitter (bitly), support@bit.ly, etc.

Agree. I'm trying to get better at CSS, but find that tables still continue to work better, especially where IE 6 compatibility is concerned.
