Most are fed a diet of fermented forages as well as grain. There isn't much of the US where grazing year round would feasible and we in the dairy industry like to be consistent so feeding fermented forages year round is the best way to meet that goal.

Re: Claims of nutritional superiority of organic milk, meat challenged by scientists

They're talking about the differences between cows grazing fresh grass versus fermented forages. Most cows get the latter but part of being organic requires the cattle to be able to graze part of the year.

Corn silage and haylage which is what most dairy cattle eat year round doesn't contain nearly as much Omega 3s (or loses them during fermentation) as fresh grass does.

Dairy rations can be balanced for Omega fatty acids but the research is still young and most of the time it isn't profitable to do so, however, future research may show more benefits which would encourage more producers to balance rations this way which may cause conventional milk to catch up to grass-fed cattle on this issue.

Re: Organic Milk Vs. It works by disrupting a pathway that is only found in plants, not in humans and other animals and any residue is long gone by the time the crops are harvested for livestock feed.

As for your other point, as the infographic shows, most of the drugs we get to use on cattle aren't used in people anymore, they're old tech. Your doctor prescribing high-powered antibiotics to treat simple ear infections is doing worse things than the livestock industry is.

Re: CNBC Ratings Tankage | Blog - Daily Options Report

One of my big problems with CNBC is that their interviews are so short the interviewee doesn't have time to really say anything. Buy some OTMs on the breakout and hold till resistance/support or the price target. I kinda thought about buying some calls yesterday as it was pretty clear by then that SLV had broken out, and why shouldn't GLD follow? But I didn't. :(

I think the case could be made that ABX broke out today as well.

Re: GLD Member | Blog - Daily Options Report

GLD broke out of a symmetrical triangle today, target 1050ish. I bought a couple puts on SLV on Firday as I don't think its ready to break out yet and I think it will back away from its upper trendline.
GGG-formed and brokeout of a inverse head and shoulders and retested, may be a good one if you want to just buy the stock, doesn't look like its going to move fast enough to bother with options.
SHS-forming a pennant. probably going to be a failed pattern unless it breaks out Monday
TEX, GFF-Broke out last week, if it retests it might be a good buy
PWR, DAKT-Forming symm triangle

CMP-descending triangle
MON-potential inverse H&S (should be at the bottom of a down trend) both shoulders have formed, now it just needs to breakout. The volume is a little heavier than the past month or so, its hitting the upper trendline of a symmetrical triangle too, but it hasn't broken out. Looking at the option activity, it looks pretty even calls vs puts until you get out to Jan where the puts have traded much more actively.

It'd be a good spot to buy calls in anticipation of a breakout, or puts to ride back down, but I don't really know which way to go.

Re: Discussing DISQUS

I think that on a blog that gets as many comments as this, live updating might almost be annoying, but we shall see.

Re: Weekly Watchlist 08/17 - Blog - Jeff Kohler the Option Addict | Stock and Options Trading

Is DXO forming a kinda ugly cup and handle?

Re: Gas Pains

When I asked that, it was as much about your philosophy as it was that particular trade. Unless they bump up the ethanol mandate though, or the dollar really plummets, I don''t know what we are going to do with it all as a lot of livestock producers have been forced out or have cut back.

Basically, I expect corn to head towards 2.50 more than I see it going back up, but anything can happen.

Re: Gas Pains

Reposting since I always manage to post right before you make a new post:

Tim, about your asset post earlier today (GLD) isn't that a fairly poor trendline with just 2-3 pretty far apart touches? Wouldn't it be better to draw a tighter symmetrical triangle with the bottom trendling starting in late april? It hasn't broken out of that yet.

Do you consider volume very often in your trading? I guess I come from the JK school of thought that if there isn't a volume spike it probably isn't a breakout, or at least not one worth trading.

Re: PowerShares Exchange

Tim, about your asset post earlier today (GLD) isn't that a fairly poor trendline with just 2-3 pretty far apart touches?
