I used to get sick after every flight. Plus they say that people who even get a mild case of covid can end up with long covid. I'm glad to see you're back on the health bandwagon and in a more reasonable manner. I have a couple pieces of advice for you in addition to what Felipe says below.

- just eat the best food you can, and not too much. fruit is excellent for you, please don't avoid it. just eat a reasonable amount. buy organic when you can and try to eat as little premade or restaurant food as possible. also, eat good oils - coconut, olive, avocado. skip the canola oil. eat lots of nuts and seeds.

- carbs are not the devil. eat them! your body needs them. I couldn't live without beans, and I won't give up potatoes or sweet potatoes or great sourdough bread. carby junk food, yes, get rid of it.

- make walking part of your life, not just an exercise program.

Our bodies have developed over the ages and we need good high quality food. not processed crap. Plus as older people we need to just eat less.

All the best to you.

Re:

They are harmless if undisturbed and are called Mexican Honey Wasps. You tube shows some videos of nests that can get huge. We are trying to make our garden as bird-bee-butterfly-friendly as possible and have been happy to have these wasps stay.

Re: mexpatriate — in the key of steve: mask up, ke-mo sah-bee

I will wear a mask until it seems safe to go without. It was not long after my dad had died and I was aware that some of his food and drink choices might have had an impact on him getting pancreatic cancer so I was evaluating changing my own food choices. I was already mainly using meat as a condiment so the shift wasn't that hard for me... but I still had kids at home and the world was different then so I was always explaining and shifting our family favorite meals.

I remember missing the hunk of meat when planning a meal but now it would all seem just too heavy. I tend to eat a lot of beans and fresh veg; flavor is more important than ever so I never skip that bit of fresh parmesan or bit of fresh herbs or squeeze of lemon.

Whenever talking about the topic I always emphasize that I eat very well, that I buy the best food I can find, as much of it organic as I can find and the junkiest thing I can imagine eating is a thin crust sourdough margarita pizza drizzled with sea salt and olive oil.

And irony will win always I got cancer myself some years ago but still consider myself healthy. Take care you two.

Re: Life at Rancho Santa Clara: It looks, cooks and tastes like a burger, but...

I've been a vegetarian since 1982. His best friend's mother had been generous and kind to him and wanted to meet me when I came for a visit. We arrived at her upper class house with me in my jeans and she was as nice to me as she was to my son. But I felt this huge gulf in our understanding of each others' lives - mine where I changed my own oil on my car and rode the bus to work but both of our kids went to an expensive school. I still count her as a "friend" but a friend is really someone who you share your true self with and that has never really happened. In my 12 years living full time in Mexico I now have some Mexican friends but they are all people who have traveled extensively abroad and in the US and can bridge those gaps. We just moved into a new (to us) house and the first neighbors to introduce themselves were a Mexican couple who lived in the US for 43 years and returned to their hometown to retire! Our other Mexican neighbors smile shyly in response to my overtures. I have just decided it is what it is and just keep trying. Love your blog. We ultimately decided to stay in Mexico because of the way people here love life (how could I give up buying a fresh squeezed juice from a friendly gal with a wooden carrying rack to buy an overpriced one at Starbucks?) Finally the three things converged to convince us we don't fit NOB any more - Trump and all that has revealed - the antiseptic, drive between the lines, obsessive control - and money. Good luck with your decision.

Re:
