This is cool, but not up to date - it says I and several others (under Associations) "have not tweeted in two weeks" and of course I tweet all day every day!

check out AwayFind - it's in beta, so you need to request an invite, but it's a way to get notification of important emails only. It's not the only service like this, but looks pretty cool.

sadly I have never attended what I would call an "insanely cool" conference either. I would say I have attended plenty of good conferences, but what made them good was first, the people I met, especially those who have become lifelong friends as a result, and second, good content. I really think the content (or speakers) have to be really top notch no matter what else you have.

I think this has a lot to do with your earlier question about fear. America's media culture is based on fear-mongering and I think that trickles down to all levels of business.

I started blogging about association industry issues, and quickly realized that everything comes back to social media. Particularly for associations and non-profits, eternally a few years behind the corporate world, it's crucial for them to find ways to enter the social space in order to survive and better yet, to really thrive. Personally, I am also finding a niche for myself within this area and discovering that a personal interest in something can result in huge professional development - awesome.

Commenting is an integral part of joining the conversation, but the other side of the coins is that it's ok if you don't get too many comments on your own blog - you may have a more passive audience than others - but it doesn't mean they aren't there, reading your stuff!

Yes I agree this is a good way to think about it, although I think small groups is part of relationship marketing (small groups to larger public networks to fully hosted networks?) - then you get into different levels of spectrums... agh. Need. more. Coffee.

This looks so cool, and I tried it, but I am getting a "401 unauthorized" error message on the feed. ??? I tried a couple of other feed urls (@replies, etc) but same problem.

As it happens, I just picked up some goodies from Amazon today - obvious, but should be good: Tribes (Godin), Back of the Napkin (Roam), Born Digital (Palfrey/Gasser). I also got Nudge (Thaler/Susstein) which looks really interesting, about "behavioral economics" and a book on Lean Dynamics (Ruffa, Going Lean). Just wish I had time really sit and read them...

Assume you're going to do this but you might want to add setting them up on Feedburner with accompanying optimizing/publicizing etc, setting up feed and subscription options, then feeding through to outposts like FB and LI.
