Came here from the Afridi article (or was it the Fawad Alam article? Can't tell). Although I was barely involved with cricket during the rise of Shoaib I can understand the sentiments, and you seem to have succeeded in invoking the same feelings in me.

Truly we - perhaps not just Pakistanis but the human nature in general - long for spikes in activity that defy physics, sixes that defy your track records to win the match. While everyone would certainly love consistency - a 9to5, job security, regular pay - half the excitement of sport is in the adrenaline rush. What, then, is sport without inconsistency.
