Let's put it this way... all sites should be up 99% of the time if they want to be used. Any less than that and people will just avoid the site or start looking around for alternatives I think.

LinkedIn has features that are focused towards professionals and business networking. Social networking with your friends is different than business networking with colleagues. There's no reason to have photo galleries when you are business networking. I don't know about you, but the people I work with and the people I hang out with outside of work are, for the most part, different. Like Brian said, in a business context, there's no reason to 'poke' people. I have both a Facebook and LinkedIn account, and use them both. LinkedIn is like a virtual resume. Facebook doesn't work very well as a resume. There's only one section of work related stuff, and its not very detailed. LinkedIn has recommendations which, I think, is very useful.

I know its probably not a huge deal, but you just made all your friends' status updates public by publishing that RSS feed. Aren't you worried some of your friends might not want their status updates viewable by everyone on the internet? Or... at least everyone who visits this page.

Tony, thanks a lot for your presentation, and writing a follow up. It's good to have this stuff in writing in addition to having the audio/video version.

For context, I was the person who asked the second question. The reason I asked was because my two co-founders and I have worked in our spare time on this project for a while now. I've heard from many people that the funding process takes a long time, and I feel that that time would be better spent actually just working on the product instead. So far, the only money we've spent was to pay for a single dedicated server and our relatively small AWS bill. The rest is just our time. My guess is that after funding we would be able to move faster, but do we really need to do that? I don't know, maybe you could offer some advice?

You mentioned some hot VC trends now. Our application is in the photo-sharing space which you said was on its way out, but we are also working on a facebook app and considering building an iPhone app if our viewer doesn't work so well in Safari on the iPhone.

The product we are creating is a web-based photo collage maker called ScrapWalls. You can upload your photos, and drag them around a giant canvas. Once you publish your ScrapWall, you can share it via a URL of your choosing. The web-based ScrapWalls viewer allows walls with thousands of photos to initially load just as fast as a single image. You can then zoom in and pan around using controls similar to Google Maps. Zooming in all the way will give you the full resolution image.

The site is live, and you can try it out if you'd like. We'd love to hear feedback from you as well as other people who like photos and photo collages.

Mark Zuckerberg is the founder of facebook, you just got them mixed up I'm sure. By the way, I wish there was a service that allowed people to easily offer these kind of corrections without leaving an entire comment to do so. Heard of one?

I found it really weird that there isn't a way to use the iPhone app without first having to obtain a physical card. Guess I have to actually visit a real, live, Starbucks to try the "Starbucks Card Mobile" app.

I think its also worth noting that Jive Software has made significant contributions to open source XMPP/Jabber software:

I think you are missing a completely different type of app that doesn't fall into one of those four categories. I've written one such app at http://twilk.com . I would call it a helper app because it helps people make their Twitter profile better. In my specific case it pulls your Twitter friends profile photos, sorts them by how much you talk to them, and aggregates them into one photo which it then uploads as your Twitter background.

I'll be honest, I don't know how you guys would be able to determine the popularity of these kinds of apps without the application developer just telling you how popular they are. My app allows you to publish a status message upon upload, but not everyone who uses the app opts in to that. I might change that in the future though.
