This is incorrect. The discussed law had nothing to do with crypto, it was about transposing into local law the EU directive about payment processors and electronic money (ie PSD2)

Estou obviamente a criticar a ideia de deificar a PT. Os comentarios nao têm nada a ver com o Celso nem com o excelente trabalho que fez usando os recursos que lhe foram disponibilizados.

Errado. A PT foi o maior obstaculo à inovação tecnologica. Como todo o monopolio, destruiu valor. A prova? Está no que lhe aconteceu.

A PT destruiu empresas concorrentes através de praticas concorrenciais ilegais. A PT esvaziou empresas de talentos que poderiam verdadeiramente inovar não estando protegidos em postos confortaveis. A PT destruiu projectos inovadores fazendo ofertas de trabalho que ou eram aceites ou então a PT duplicava o projecto. A PT contribuiu para um prejuizo do empreendedorismo em Portugal *nunca* adquirindo empresas, o que teria sido um exemplo de sucesso para outros. A PT foi um entrave à evolução da Internet em Portugal através do boicote a organizações como o PIX. A PT usou argumentos como, falando com clientes sobre os concorrentes, "vejam lá com quem se metem porque eles (leia-se: a Esoterica) usam software gratuito nos servidores". A PT manipulou o ICP (hoje Anacom) para fazerem inspecções repetidas a alguns concorrentes, sempre com o intuito de os eliminar de formas alternativas que não a qualidade.

Finalmente: a PT moveu os seus peões dentro do ICP para acusar a Esoterica e para me acusar pessoalmente de "operação ilegal nas telecomunicações", razão pela qual fui a tribunal sujeito a uma pena potencial de 3 anos de prisão.

Acresce que, na lógica da democracia à francesa (liberté, equalité, fraternité), há um problema de incompatibilidade.

A igualdade não pode ser feita sem ataques à liberdade. Se eu colhi 10 kilos de maçãs e tu colheste 8 kilos, somos necessariamente desiguais. De onde decorre que, para haver igualdade, eu tenho de ser deprivado de parte da minha liberdade (nomeadamente a de manter os frutos do meu trabalho) e "dar" uma maçã para o "bem comum".

Isto é a razão porque, historicamente e inevitavelmente, todas as democracias socialistas ganham gradualmente atitudes mais autoritárias que muitas vezes desembocam em ditaduras, nazis, comunistas, cubanas, venezuelanas.

Mais importante: as pessoas não sabem qual a diferença entre democracia e republica. Da ultima vez que vi, vivo na *Republica* Portuguesa. Que por acaso tem uma componente democratica no processo eleitoral.

As pessoas votam mas depois não querem ser governadas. Querem decisões de mão no ar.

Democracia é governar a ouvir as pessoas. Republica é ouvir as pessoas e depois governar.

One suggestion (for everyone really): stop using passwords (complicated, hard to remember, written on post-its, +- 8 or 9 or 10 char) passwords; start using passphrases (simple, easy to remember, no post-its, lots of characters, avg 14 chars)

Ex: "this is my password for xpto.com" - 32 chars
Use a different phrase; replace xpto.com with the domain of the site you're registering at; or maybe having a single sentence/passphrase for all the sites, though it would be better to have different passwords/passphrases for each site/service.

Bitcoin would be the way to go, as some people have already mentioned.

And I think it would be pretty to implement with little or no changes on both client and server

- SMTP(E) already supports extensions for authentication
- most email servers (qmail, postfix that I know of) already permit the creation and use of plugins

It would basically be a problem of implementing a plugin using bitcoin as the authentication. It would work this (simplified) way:
- client connects
- server says hello
- server would send AUTH STANDARDAUTH
- authenticated users would login
- if previous authentication failed, server would send AUTH BITCOIN DESTINATIONWALLET (plugin serverside)
- client would have to transfer some amount of btc to specified address
- client would have to reply with a btc transaction id/address (client/spammers problem)
- server would check the transaction and allow login if transaction was valid or deny login if invalid or non-existent; aditionally this would have an impact on the client/spammer since a bitcoin transaction takes some time to be verified

Some issues and answers:

- this would mean making some changes on the client side; that would be the spammers problem, authenticated users would still login with no changes on their side; spammers already have the capability of messing with the email headers, so "you want it to work then implement it"

- it would create a problem of "you'd be selling your users addresses to be spammed"; yes,especially if you used your own bitcoin wallet address to get the bitcoins; this could be solved by creating an opt-in list where users would register their wallet address and receive the spammers bitcoin transactions; maybe make the servers operator bitcoin wallet address the default one; this would also allow the servers operator to create multiple honeypot/false email addresses registered in the the opt-in list, publicize them, and have an aditional revenue stream with marginal costs; servers operator would actually be charging the spammers for any spam they might able to put through existing spam filters; and the spam messages wouldnt actually be delivered ie. no gains, just costs on the spammers side.

- spammers could use the transaction id repeatedly since it would always be valid; yes, some registration of transaction ids would have to exist in the serverside plugin and no repeated ids would be allowed

Some previous posters comments:
- "until the proof of work function makes electricity price a factor": bitcoin payments would be a perfect proxy for energy consumption
- "Proof of work needs to get harder over time": bitcoin would do this
- "Many systems are challenge/response because they can't allow replay attacks": yes, registering transaction ids and refusing duplicates would solve this, see above
- "I operate a small website and would hate to have to add complexity and pay for this": there would be no changes in existing client code, as long as a standard auth was provided
- "spammers would just use botnets to externalize the costs": they would be free to do that, we accept any colour of bitcoins :-)
- "Stored labor implies the original labor was valuable (eg practicing law). Is mining for bitcoins a valuable activity in as of itself?": some people make money by buying something cheap and selling it at a higher value; and they actually store their labour in small pieces of paper and small round pieces of metal; is intermediating/arbitrage a valuable activity? yes, as long as people believe in pieces of paper that store the value of the transactions; in some countries, like in Venezuela, people stop believing in the small pieces of paper that are printed there and change their labour store to the small pieces of paper printed in other countries :-)
