If you take a humble Filipina out of the province and put her in Hollywood, give her a vocal coach to tame her natural talent, and productize her in the VERY AMERICAN WAY that the American music industry OFTEN does, the results are going to be exactly that.

People fall for stuff like this all the time. WTH is Ke$ha all about?

So, I actually don't think Charice is arrogant. I think she's a very talented girl that has been productized by a dying industry that usually shovels poop at people.

Re: http://wild.ly/post/568817346

I have no idea what the hell just happened here, other than Delicious.com pulling my bookmark and my being flippant about describing this link from the point I bookmarked it. Sorry about that, as I guess I rarely think about where my content is being sharecropped anymore and I offer no explanation for it.

I thought I'd clarify since I can't re-blog what has been originally posted. I am not necessarily interested in the venture itself or the background of these women but I fail to see how this is helping. The inherent reason I bookmarked this is because I'm actually interested in the race of these trafficked women (most likely Asian... I tend to not get involved in womens' issues until race is involved... that's just the way I am) and why they have more than likely been transformed into garment workers? (Let's be honest: Yes, it's NYC, so I'm not gonna pretend Asian ladies don't work in sweatshops.) How is this different from anyone putting them in a nail salon?

Lastly, when people look at ME, do they assume I a) have no truly marketable skills, and b) I will work cheap labor because of my ethnic background (and not just my gender)?

I don't expect people to understand the angle I was looking at this link in, and really just wanted to save this for later. I admit to being too lazy to type out a scathing tirade on a gender issue combined with race, and 1st world vs. 3rd world economic mentalities. Perhaps I will sometime, but I'd really like for someone to: a) put me in the position to do that, and b) give me a job that would actually pay me to do that... which is my point. Otherwise, me spending time typing and pontificating about this is not helping me get my paper up.

Re: http://wild.ly/post/405131038

Thank you, chica!!!

Re: Too Much Nick

Part of: http://elsewherepublicworks...

Re: Too Much Nick

http://elsewherepublicworks...

Re: The Wildcard

3rd listen: The "Mariah" notes are the giveaway, inconsistent tone in the voice.

Re: The Wildcard

You know what? It sounds like it was pieced together to me. But it's still hilarious. After I posted this, I realized that there are parts in the actual audio file that aren't to the same audio levels (listen to the varying degrees of background noise versus the primary vocal) -- I ran it through Logic and you can see it.

What're you doing looking at TMZ? Sorry you weren't able to find me; the closest thing you'll probably find more recently is here:
http://2007.sxsw.com/intera...
http://2006.sxsw.com/intera...
http://locusarts.org/artist...

I'm a writer, technologist, & activist.

A couple of folks that were missed that have speaking experience as well:
- Leonard Lin, Technologist & Blogger
- Ernie Hsiung, Blogger & Technologist
- Raymond Padilla, Gaming Journalist & Blogger
- Bryan Veloso, Technologist & Blogger

And of course, my colleague, technologist Tantek Çelik -- self-defined as Eurasian in heritage, and of Turkish descent.

I'm sure I'm forgetting many people, but I have had an ongoing list in my head of this nature for a while now.

I'm glad this list is getting done, I have very strong ties to issues of race and gender, particularly in the technology sector where I am employed. I already do the same for the arts here in the Bay Area, and recently I've been disappointed in the lack of Asian representation in technology conferences. Truly, this is an ongoing issue for our "silent minority."

I'd like to change that. Let me know how I can help.

Regards,

Glenda

Re: NYC Wrapup, the home for the holidays

Good to meet you when you visited NYC, and sorry I only around for a short while.

I can sense I bit of "OMGOMGOMG" in this entry, but let me assure you,
I myself moved out to SF from NYC 3 years ago, and it's been one of the smartest things I've done for myself professionally and personally.
