While there were certainly a few really great episodes and some powerful moments, I think there's some valid points made in this article about the season as a whole. I'll keep watching, but cannot honestly say Season 3 lived up to the promise of Seasons 1 and 2.

Re: Ending The Death Penalty Should Be A Conservative Priority

Choosing to ignore the evidence does not dismiss its legitimacy. You simply haven't noticed. Cameron Todd Willlingham was one high-profile example:

http://www.newyorker.com/re...

See also: Johnny Garrett, Carlos De Luna, Larry Griffin, Ruben Cantu, David Spence, Jesse Tafero, Ellis Wayne Felker, Leo Jones, Joseph O'Dell, and Lionel Herrera. There are countless others.

Again, as the article points out, the study found "over 4 percent of people sentenced to death are innocent." Anything over zero is unacceptable, and we can prevent from having any more blood on our hands by immediately prohibiting the barbaric policy of capital punishment.

Re: Apoplectic Skeptic • Your anti israeli stance is pretty clear (apoplecticskeptic/search/israel). Greenwald and others are criticizing the critics who are asserting this movie "proves torture worked" when the facts have long shown that it clearly did not. Whether the movie is pro-torture or anti-torture is irrelevant; a movie's depiction of torture does not suddenly mean that it worked when the facts have long shown that it didn't. You don't need to see a movie to draw this conclusion or call bullshit on people suggesting otherwise. Do I need to see "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" in order to tell someone that the former president was not, in fact, a vampire hunter?

Re: http://taralikesnonsense.tumblr.com/post/36396484325

The ecstasy experience in that film sure seemed pretty magical.

Re: Re: Making Excuses for Voter Suppression

As my uncle said to me this week, a new requirement might be more acceptable if everyone were given ample time and means to require such an ID for a future election, like say 2020 or something.

To your point, the requirements alone can be fairly ridiculous. I'm about to try to get my state ID here in Texas, and needed to have my folks mail me my birth certificate first. I hope my own criminal history (which are not wrongful convictions, unfortunately) do not further complicate matters, but there is also the burden of trying to do this when I don't have to take a day off of work to do so.

It's unfortunate that the "We require ID for alcohol purchases" line has become so repeated without any consideration of how many people these laws are really going to affect. And as has been pointed out repeatedly, so-called "voter fraud" isn't even a real problem.

Re: http://apoplecticskeptic.com/post/21037569396

I was actually surprised manatee himself didn't reference it first, but the wisdom of Bill Hicks remains as relevant as ever.

Re: http://sportspage.tumblr.com/post/12019032583

Cruz had a great postseason, but Napoli won this series for them.

Re: http://sportspage.tumblr.com/post/12019032583

Sorry, that was my way of saying I thought this image should still be on the front page tomorrow, seeing as this guy's still going to win the MVP.

Re: http://jeffmiller.tumblr.com/post/8978368532

This really should be a regular feature.

Re: http://blog.danielholter.com/post/7091514810

I shouldn't be surprised by your continual showings of fine taste, but I'm happy that a fellow Tumblr appreciates this particular flavor (there's not really a Ben & Jerry's creation I "dislike," but Chubby Hubby is just in a league of its own). And I certainly don't feel you're obligated to answer it specifically, since like I said in the follow-up, using the term "precedent" wasn't accurate. So I imagine any future post of yours touching on your feelings about the Court's opinion would satisfy my curiosity.
I'm just a bit more concerned about the 8-1 decision with only Ginsburg--the justice who had reportedly fallen asleep at past hearings and has been speculated to be most likely to be the next to resign--being the only one who saw that decision as a real danger to Fourth Amendment rights. I also wonder if that decision made Obama wonder about his own appointment decisions and how it might affect his next one--assuming he gets that opportunity, of course.

Re: http://jeffmiller.tumblr.com/post/7016092054

From this follower's perspective, strong points like those made in the final two paragraphs of this post are examples of why I follow. But I thought that another Tumblr summed it up more eloquently a few months ago:

"A note on Jeff, one of the few tumblrs I’m featuring here: he’s a libertarian and sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don’t. But in on a blog network that has scared most conservatives into a tiny corner where they can safely talk sh-t about Obama, Jeff has been nuanced and polite in debating liberals here when there’s potential for serious pile-on. You say you hate libertarians and then one tells you he wants us to pull out of unnecessary wars, end police abuse, and lessen penalties on non-violent offences? I’m okay with teaming up once in awhile."http://tooseriousman.tumblr...

Or, who knows, maybe it was your link to that story about the man eating his own poop in court. Keep on doing what your doing, and I'm sure the follower count will only continue to rise.

Re: http://excitablehonky.tumblr.com/post/6997856722

I would think Madden might be easier to reacquire than Ladd though. I heard
Eddie O on the radio discussing the possibilities, and he sounded pretty
lukewarm on bringing back either. I think he was concerned about the Hawks
spending too much to bring back a member of the title squad and how it might
affect their ability to sign another component. But obviously, getting rid
of that Campbell deal was a pretty big move. Now you've got to replace him
too, of course.

Re: http://blog.danielholter.com/post/6741933521

From the Department of Things You Already Know: You have excellent taste.

Re: http://sportspage.tumblr.com/post/6477303920

I would agree that the NBA can be the most infuriating to watch as a fan, but what would the happy medium be? If the refs began swallowing their whistles, then everyone would complain about the lack of calls.

If you haven't read the fantastic book "Scorecasting" (it's like "Freakonomics" for sports), the conclusion drawn through studies of numerous sports and countless games is that referees predominantly get things right. Furthermore, the great teams overcome the bad calls. Tara was reminding me during the game tonight of how even the announcers in 2006 were questioning the calls the Heat were getting in that series, but all I seem to remember is that Dallas choked away a big lead in Game 3 that year and still only lost the last game by three points.

Thanks for your kind words about my comments, of course. I consider myself a fan of this blog and don't think it has any obligation to be unbiased--especially not with a Miami Heat team that has been made the center of the story all year long on ESPN and throughout these Finals, even when they lost. I'm sure the same bitter Heat fans weren't complaining when they were the center of attention for every single game this year.

Keep on doin' what you guys do so well ...

Re: http://sportspage.tumblr.com/post/6477303920

OK, there's a lot of acting in pro basketball, but it's probably the hardest game to officiate. And whatever sport, those guys are only human, rarely getting credit for the number of calls they get correct.

Also, I find it amusing that the first sport this commenter chooses as an example is football since Super Bowl XL was probably the most egregious case of questionable calls I can recall--to the point that even the head referee admits blown calls:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl...

Re: http://sportspage.tumblr.com/post/6477029783

I have no pity for any Miami fan playing the victim card. They might have forgotten about the championship rally they held before, you know, ever winning a championship, but the rest of us didn't.
