The reason being besides tearing down goal post to club opposing players they also combine two other sports, Squash and fencing. When 100,000 rabid fans are trying to get into a stadium that's capacity is 50,000 innocent people are trampled or squashed to death by the fence.

Murd

Re: Tom Watson’s British Open run made golf worth watching

I for one am glad Tom Watson lost the British Open in a playoff to Stuart Cink. Colorful announcer and fellow pro golfer Gary McCord is banned from being an announcer at the Masters golf tournaments in Georgia because he once referred to the greens there as being "smooth as a ladies shaven legs."

Tom Watson thought this outrageous description of the greens at the Masters where only recently Black caddies were permitted on their sacred course warranted him from ever being able to announce there again.

Murdock

Re: Driving home a point about handicap parking

Regarding the diagonal yellow line in H/P parking spaces Penny Arsenault is correct they are there for vehicles with W/C people to be able to drop ramps or lifts so people in wheelchairs are able to exit safely. When I can find a H/P spot and need this I often find the spots taken. I know not everyone has a visible disability but I do know that handicap cards and parking spaces are very much abused. Doctors too often easily write off disability letters to obtain these I'm sure in fear of law suits. Larry David on his show "Curb your enthusiasm" had a great show dealing with this problem. H/P parking spaces were taken by people with "hangnails" and a H/P bathroom stall was taken by someone who "stuttered" Often at events and restaurants I've seen all H/P spaces taken and no visible signs of need by people who easily walk to and from these cars. I have MS and in a W/C 24/7 and often need to park a fair distance away to be able to exit my van. I don't know why people want to be able to go to the extreme of obtaining or as what happened to me stealing these blue H/P cards so they don't have to walk far. If I could walk I'd now do it gladly over broken glass from the furthest point in a parking lot. People are funny as Larry David pointed out and laughter is the best medicine...look at hospital robes!!

Re: More on comments

Regarding the diagonal yellow line in H/P parking spaces Penny Arsenault is correct they are there for vehicles with W/C people to be able to drop ramps or lifts so people in wheelchairs are able to exit safely. Many homes on my road are getting restored and although we've reported that I'm a H/P person it doesn't matter. Fortunately we have a generator purchased for the purpose of if we lose power...a few hours or day, but never dreamed nine days and counting. Hope it keeps running or looks like "better you then me

Re: 194,000 PSNH customers without power

It's been eight days since I've had power here in Mason even though less then 1/8 of a mile down the road in Townsend MA power has been on for days. During the tragic 9/11 when every airport in the country was shut down we were able to get a fight home in 4 days. Less then half the time if and when the power is ever restored here. I have all the kudos in the world for the hard working men and women working to restore power. Perhaps the big problem is at the top?
