The Democrats, for reasons that still baflle me, are spineless. President Obama, I'm sorry to say, though charming, affable, intelligent, goodlooking, charismatic and a whole host of other things, does not, as you say, "have enough dog in him" to mitigate their spinelessness. It's stunning--and depressing.
@RE - it's even worse than you think. The Republicans don't have to filibuster, they just *threaten* to, and the Dems don't bring the bills to the floor. It's ridiculous and again, utterly baffling. What's the point in having power if you don't use it? If they *really* want to be seen by the public holding up progress by filibustering (reading the bible or the phone book or wikipedia, or whatever) aloud, I say "let 'em!"

I guess it's just me, but I've been saying since the Gary Hart "scandal": why is this considered news? Unless you're my spouse, significant other or kid, I couldn't care less who you're boffing (or not!)
