The FBI’s Dubious Record on Prosecuting Terror Plots

If you’re planning to commit an act of terror in the US and want to be left alone by the FBI, make sure your target is something, or someone, that the US government doesn’t like or care about.
Consider these two terrorist plots.
Just last week, on Jan. 14, the FBI announced that it had arrested Christopher Lee Cornell, a guy in Ohio the bureau alleges had plans to attack Congress with pipe bombs and guns. Apparently acting alone, Cornell is alleged by the FBI to have “researched how to make pipe bombs” (there’s no indication that he actually made or tested any actual bombs), and to have purchased a pair of M-15 semi-automatic rifles and ammunition. How Cornell, who is described as a self-styled “jihadist,” but one with no real connection with foreign Islamic militants, planned to get past the metal detectors and tight security at the Capitol Building in Washington, was not explained, and probably was not known to Cornell himself. It also appears that the FBI was watching Cornell all along, and no doubt encouraging him too, as it was working with a snitch -- a man facing prosecution who was in communication with Cornell and may well have been a provocateur, given the Bureau’s prior history of luring vulnerable people into planning terror acts which it then busts.
Compare this case with one we reported on earlier here, which was in the works in the fall of 2011. I’m referring to a terrorism plot in Houston, TX, which the FBI never did report publicly, but which was instead disclosed only thanks to some documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act in 2012 by the Washington, DC-based public interest law firm Partnership for Civil Justice, and which involved an apparently well-developed plan to assassinate leaders of the Houston Occupy Movement. Those documents -- internal memos sent out by FBI offices in Houston and Gainesville, FL -- refer to “one identified [deleted]” that “planned to engage in sniper attacks against protesters in Houston, Texas if deemed necessary.”
The initial memo, sent to FBI headquarters in Washington from the Houston FBI office, went on to say that the “identified” plotters “had received intelligence that indicated the protesters in New York and Seattle planned similar protests in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin, Texas,” and that they “planned to gather intelligence against the leaders of the protest group and obtain photographs, then formulate a plan to kill the leadership by suppressed sniper rifles.

Lance Tapley continues to rework and update the narrative of Crime and Punishment written by Russian author Fydor Doestoyesky.
One can only wonder why Tapley refuses to view the documentary
TITTICUT FOLLIES made in the early 1960's by award winning filmaker Fred Wiseman and banned from being shown in Massachusetts for 20 years because it details the horrors of the State Psychiatric Hospital on Titticut road in Bridgewater Mass .
As a Maine voter and taxpayer and primary consumer of the Maine Criminal Justice system I am outraged that my tax dime is used to fund these electronic cesspools called prisons that do little more than produce more vicious and competent criminals. According to the Vera Institute it cost Maine taxpayers $54,000.00 to warehouse 1 inmate for 1 year in Maine State Prisons in 2012. That cost does not include court costs, police costs or the cost to the victim of the crime. In return the Maine voter and taxpayer is guaranteed 70 out of of 100 inmates will return to prison once they are released. What other business in the world is allowed to operate with a 70 % failure rate?
Until Maine voters and taxpayers see themselves as the primary consumers and owners of the criminal justice system nothing will change. Until the victims of crime join forces with other consumer groups to create civilian review boards to created standards for the criminal justice system and enforce those standards with subpoena powers to hire competent staff and fire people working in the prisons,courts and law enforcement then the inmates will continue to be indistinquishable from the staff and the Maine Criminal Justice System will be nothing more than a crime family. After all the only people who benefit from this system are the people who run it.
It is a taxpayer funded workfare program for returning vets in the Iraq war, eh?

FBI Analyst Sentenced In Underage Sex Case

A former FBI analyst has been sentenced for having sex with a young Spotsylvania County girl.

Forty four year old Anthony Lesko entered an Alford Plea to the charges in a Spotsylvania County Circuit to nine counts of felony indecent liberties upon a child.

The plea means that Lesko does not admit guilt but believes that there is enough evidence to convict him. Lesko was sentenced to seven years in prison with 15 years suspended under a plea agreement.

Lesko was also ordered to pay 10 thousand dollars in restitution to cover the girl's mental health counseling. According to police Lesko was engaged in nine sexual encounters with the girl, starting when she was nine years old.

According to the plea Lesko says he was the victim in the case and that the girl initiated the contact.

Former FBI agent Ryan Seese, 36, now faces two counts of invasion of privacy.

A former FBI agent who was already convicted of spying on a 14-year-old girl inside a bathroom at Hershey Middle School is facing even more charges.

Last month 36-year-old Ryan Seese admitted he went into the middle school bathroom and peered over a stall to watch the teen. That incident happened back in May. He pleaded guilty in late August.

Now prosecutors have filed more charges against him stemming from an incident at a Derry Township gym.

They said back in February Seese went into the ladies bathroom at the Granada Gym. They said there were two adult female victims. One reported he peered into her bathroom stall using a mirror, police said.
