I did wonder if friction would be enough to cause that much heating.

Good question about the colours of the plasma/flames. I had no idea that higher temperatures caused different colours. Maybe it's something to do with the chemical composition of the heat shielding? LCD and AMOLED are _so_ different that it's quite hard to compare them accurately.

Likewise, it's nice to know that IPS has better viewing angles (and maybe color reproduction) than VA, but it's something that you kind of need to see in real life to appreciate the difference.

Or, in other words, maybe don't pay too much heed to nits, and focus more on whether a reviewer things the screen is "bright" or "not very bright".

It's a complex issue, clearly :)

Re: Nintendo’s next console will likely use x86 AMD chip, just like the Xbox One and PS4

Ha. Neuromorphic stuff, beyond-CMOS (nanotubes, graphene), etc.

But yes, they are actually getting out of making chips -- and previously, they made the chips for Nintendo. So it's fairly safe to assume that the next Nintendo console won't have an IBM-made chip. It could have an OpenPower chip I guess, but that seems unlikely.

ARM isn't more efficient than x86.

x86 (+ GCN GPU) would make sense, if Nintendo wanted to make it easier for developers to bring high-end games to a next-gen Nintendo console. Or x86 just makes sense because there simply aren't any other architectures right now that really make sense. ARM is a possibility, I agree (and that's why I mention it in the post).

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Re: The Open Bay: Now you can download and host your own copy of The Pirate Bay

*mind explodes*

Re: Who really hacked Sony Pictures? Like iTunes, or Spotify, or Netflix, etc.

Piracy mainly exists because of a) People don't want to pay a lot of money for something, or b) The content isn't available in their country (due to various licensing deals, rights holder agreements, etc.)

The industry knows this, of course. But it's just not an easy thing to fix. In the mean time, while they try to find a solution, shutting down file sharing sites is the next best thing I guess.

Re: BPG: A new, superior image format that really ought to kill off JPEG

I do, but the other kind -- real football!

(I'm British, not American.)
