One of two favorite blues. The other being Noodler's Liberty Elysium. That's in my TWSBI Eco which I was writing with most of today.

Re: Top 20 Books on Sustainability

My favorite is Necessary Revolution by Peter Senge http://www.matthewrecommend...

Re: Culture, CSR and Globalization? The Five Step Primer

Rahul, I love this list!

I strongly agree that the CSR and sustainability need to incorporate "culture" in their definitions, strategy, design, implementation, and reporting. You are in good company, Adam Werbach of Satchi & Satchi S has also added "culture" as the 4th bottom-line of sustainability in his book "Strategy for Sustainability."

A large untapped role and IMHO requirement of CSR leaders is community engagement: learn what the cultural issues are; find the points of pain; discover opportunities for non-net-zero solutions; and be innovative in partnerships – diversity of thought creates amazing opportunities for community, brand, and company.

I echo robertbean's comment: Rahul Mitra's list implies a need to acquire and apply a culturally competent mindset to the processes of 'glocalisation'. This brings CSR from an add-on corporate program to an holistic approach to risk and opportunity management. CSR is strategic in its best nature.

Matthew Rochte
CSR/Sustainability Consultant
http://www.OpportunitySustainability.com

FYI: My definition of sustainability in business
Sustainability is about increasing short-term and long-term profitability and viability by holistically managing the economic, social, environmental, and cultural risks and opportunities.

Re: Supply Chain and Climate Change: Still a lot of work to do

As more #sustainability and #csr issues are routed upstream, up the supply chain - tools to measure, monitor, and reinforce will and are being developed. I have seen several such attempts at trade shows already - SAP, Aravo to name a couple. The two big challenges I see are verification and too many standards. The former should dissipate over time as more issues are fed into the stream. The latter will either turn the process into mud or promote innovation and standardization.
Matthew Rochte, LEED AP
CSR/Sustainability Consultant
http://www.OpportunitySusta...
http://twitter.com/mrochte

Re: 5 Social Media Tips for Better Corporate Social Responsibility

Ann,
Great article with good examples. There is an over arching element of CSR and sustainability that could be added to this list - Integrate. Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability in companies work best when all five of these elements are present, working together to inspire all stakeholders. When this happens the social media aspects reach well beyond PR and marketing for the company. It becomes about about (global) citizenship and engagement.
Thank you.
Matthew Rochte, LEED AP
CSR / Sustainability Consultant
http://www.OpportunitySustainability.com

Twitter: @mrochte

Re: Sustainability Activist, Influencer or Observer? What are you?

Hi Fabian, Love this list.
Are there hybrids, say influencial-activists?
Where do CSR or Sustainability Directors fit in? IMO these roles in organization have the potential for both influence, activity (as apposed to activism), and engagement with the subject matter. These are either the hands on workers in sustainability or managers of them. I Think I'll this Engagers.

Where does the green consumer? activist-observer

Interesting topic.

Matthew Rochte ~ Engager/Influencer
CSR / Sustainability Consultant
http://www.OpportunitySusta...
@mrochte
