A "combat jump" these days would make the Greatest Generation laugh where they stand. They like to tuck in their pants legs...other than that, the 101st or 82nd is just like any other unit.

Re: Scuttlebutt (yes a little late)…Do YOU know Ben Strong?

Here's a little "scuttlebutt"....how much longer will Thomas Jackson post libelous information until someone takes legal action?

Now, Thomas Jackson likes to delete some of his posts that are deemed to be "too aggressive" but what he may not know, people compile those posts, and maintain a list of public postings that can be considered libel.

Here's what we know; Thomas Jackson does not have the "connections" he once thought he did. How do we know this? Thomas Jackson is attacking his fellow bloggers now. He doesn't have specifics. He was late breaking the Coast Guard Academy story. He was delayed on commenting about the C-130 crash, he doesn't know the inner-workings.

The blog posts on his website continue to have typos. Those typos are numerous and embarrassing.

Have you taken a look at that blog recently? Nothing on it is of substance. Nothing. It's harmless, gossip. To "stir up" more traffic, Thomas Jackson has had to post on military.com.

Interesting? Yes. Influential? No. No one reads Thomas Jackson's blog, it's anti-Coast Guard, and it's ill-informed. Sad, but true.

Re: Like it or not BMI is standard- loose the weight!

Excuses, excuses.

Personal responsibility apparently wasn't a trait of "the old Guard" from what I'm hearing here.

You really think a shipmate doesn't realize they're getting fat after they purchase "the next size up" ODU pants multiple times? Give me a break.

The last ship I was on had mirrors. Surely the CO isn't the only person who can tell when someone is getting "chunky". It's up to that Coast Guardsman to look in the mirror and do something about it.

Re: Like it or not BMI is standard- loose the weight!

Greg, maybe an FSC on your ship (you) should have requested Evergreen Funds for work out equipment. That's usually a given, and I've seen it done plenty of times.

I would have a problem calling some Seaman into the Chief's Mess to counsel him/her on her conduct and adherence to any kind of rule while he has a chief sitting across the table who can barely close his belt or get through Pre-SCBA hatches.

Perhaps the guidance came because like many FSs out there, fried chicken is the food of choice to turn too, not because it's healthy but because it's easy. I've seen FSs with the healthy and wellbeing of their shipmates in mind and FSs with "easy work" on mind.

4-8s ARE 4-8s, and there are PLENTY of Coast Guardsmen out there than can find the time to ride a stationary bike.

I've been on ships that I LOST weight on. I took the time to work out.

People have had a YEAR to get ready for this....and they didn't. Some of those BMC and MKC are major offenders, no wonder they need to "cowtow", they're trying to stay off the radar.

Forgive me for not welling up with tears for people who couldn't get themselves together in A YEAR!

Re: A tribute group takes off for the crew of CG1705 on Facebook

Mr. Palco, yes, they do and that kind of response to such an event is almost automatic.

Great idea for the FaceBook group. It is a must read. Not entirely positive, which is good, because you don't get the idea that Helvarg is just acting as a Coast Guard mouth piece. Looking past the very fact that you're adding drag to a boat, where would you draw the line? I have an idea, USE A FREAKIN' EPIRB and wear your PFD!

The football players didn't do the right think, whether thats because they didn't have an plan, gear or knowledge, you can't fix that.

They were high-profile, but inattention leads to problems afloat EVERYDAY. If the private sector corrected for every dumb action....people wouldn't be on a boat because it would be deemed too dangerous. They would sit in climate-controlled bubbles, with their vitals monitored every second of every day.

Re: Congressman Joe Courtney looks to get Coast Guard Museum Project Up and Running

You're simply overlooking the fact that the Coast Guard Band travels a great deal. They do play at Arlington for Veterans Day at the CG Memorial, and they are a part of many "big" events in Washington. They play in Japan and Europe and all over the United States.

Much like CGC DALLAS doesn't "patrol" Charleston, the Coast Guard Band isn't anchored in New London, CT.

Re: Congressman Joe Courtney looks to get Coast Guard Museum Project Up and Running

I understand the point about having the Coast Guard band and museum in the Washington, DC area, however, I also would maintain that it will just get lost there, like the U.S. Coast Guard Memorial at Arlington. Right next to the Air Force Memorial....which do people notice? Not the Coast Guard. What do people know about the Navy Yard that aren't in the military? Not much, unless they're driving to a Nationals game and crossing the bridge to get there from I-295.

Baltimore wouldn't be a bad idea, but IMO, I would rather not see Rep. Cummins benefit from anything the Coast Guard does. He's had is teeth in the service for some time. I don't disagree about the band.

Band in DC? Yes. Museum in DC? I'm not married to that.

Re: Congressman Joe Courtney looks to get Coast Guard Museum Project Up and Running

Wrong and wrong....first.....Who in Washington DC even knows where the Navy Museum is? The Army? No one! People know about the USMC museum, but that's just outside of DC. Finally the Air Force is well outside of DC. Military museums in DC are lost to the Smithsonian.

The Coast Guard Band actually has a relationship with the community of New London. I wonder, CGRDS....exactly who is willing to take the pay cut to move the Coast Guard band to DC....and exactly where will they be kept? I'm not against it, but they need to have a home...they can't practice out in the rain, and I'm assuming you know their set up as is.

I also want to assume you've been to TISCOM and know about all of the NON-Coast Guard security there...now...I wonder how open they can make TISCOM (in the middle of nowhere in Alexandria).

Re: CGBLOG Find: A Delicious Aroma

MWR would not receive a "cut" and I highly doubt this company has taken the steps to legally use the U.S. Coast Guard crest. I have no desire to contact you.....I don't even know who you are.

Interesting....TJWalkup wants to talk about the 1st Amendment all day long, but as soon as people say things he doesn't want to hear....he wants people BLOCKED!

I'm not a first time poster TJWalkup, and last time I checked, my "qualifications" for being here far outweighed your own. Now, I'm not asking for you to be blocked...because if I don't like what you say, I read it once, and then I probably ignore it. Perhaps you should do what you said you were going to do after your first exchange on here...and not come back.

I have talked about CNN and the ACLU....CNN would be DIRECTLY connected with the original topic, however the ACLU was brought into the conversation by you. While I was talking about two organizations, however, you attacked me by saying I am "inline with fascism". First, talk to your editor..."inline" is a kind of roller skating...maybe you meant "in line". Either way, the only personal attack here has been by you. I would ask for you to be blocked, but I don't believe that would be "in the spirit of" the 1st Amendment...do you? Maybe you only use the Constitution as a means to an end? I won't be the judge of that.

Re: Coast Guard Drill, CNN, and US Code

"inline with fascism"....

Thus....people don't take the ACLU seriously. The ACLU isn't relevant...it's white noise, an annoying insect you have to swat at...

What you can assume is I have worked "with" the ACLU before, and I have to say....not impressed.

Here's a question though TJ (that's interesting) Walkup.....if I google that name...please tell me you are not the CNN affiliated T.J. Walkup.

Please tell me you are a disinterested 3rd party.

Re: Coast Guard Drill, CNN, and US Code

The CNN is not given free reign because of the 1st Amendment. Unfortunately, some reporting by CNN may be illegal, and there's nothing they can do about it. They did nothing to check the facts, and the end product, the U.S. general population doesn't believe reporters and is skeptical of the news. This also is a prime example of why social media is exploding and more traditional forms of media are being left in the dust.

For someone to say they have credentials or work for the ACLU...does not lend them much credibility.

CNN dropped the ball, followed by Fox and Reuters. CNN dropped the ball a second time by trying to redirect blame for their poor (consistently poor) job reporting (their entire reason for being). The media is not what it once used to be. They don't know what to do about social media, and they see that people are turning away from them. I'm not saying social media is credible...there's a lot of trash that you have to sift through to get to the real "meat and potatoes", but traditional media has failed the American people in holding itself accountable.

Yes, there were a few news outlets that did call out CNN......

The Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, military.com, etc.....but CNN of course did nothing to correct the story except change a line and then point a finger. Shame on them and their terrible viewing numbers.

Re: Updates Needed for Our Link List

I can think of one website that won't be on that list.

Ryan, doesn't the Coast Guard Compass maintain a list too?
