The constraints are somehow freeing and I love having to look at a problem from a different angle. Sometimes modern tools allow you to just brute force something and that's not always a good thing.

I like the TK prefix, just pointing out that I had to sort it in my brain, although I've never used Tkinter for anything other than rapid prototypes.

Re: C64 OS — An OS with Modern Concepts

I always think of TKinter whenever I see these TK terms :)

Have you found the RAM limits to actually be a design advantage?

Re: C64 OS — An OS with Modern Concepts

Do you need help/testers?

Re: C64 OS — An OS with Modern Concepts

I like that you leave the discovery process in your writing. I agree, that's a good thing. What people are wondering is why a number of you are doing business with each other while administering a 30 million dollar prize competition. Teams buying services from each other is one thing, teams buying services from the people in charge of the contest is a whole other thing.

I did make a mistake before hitting publish last week. I did not ask Alex for her perspective, comments, and reaction. For that I apologize and will work to rectify ASAP.

I did note that in other circles that this sort of thing would not be okay, and I question whether it is in the Google Lunar X PRIZE as well.

I write for several tech publications and it is common practice to disallow us to write about businesses where we have a vested interest in the outcome of their future, even if it's completely innocent and only smells like maybe we have a bias.

The problem that needs to be addressed is the appearance that Moon Express is getting special treatment in light of what I've talked about here. They have clearly violated the MTA in the blogging and video categories and it seems from many points of view that their being allowed to continue without recourse could be connected to a set of special circumstances that has afforded them special treatment.

In any case, I'm glad that we're finally talking about this in public. Hopefully public debate will help dispel any fears and then everyone can move on with confidence in the execution of this prize.

Re: PTS visits Silicon Valley

It wasn't so private for me last year. This year I wasn't even invited. :-(

Re: Moonbots 2.0 - Phase One with the RoboSpartans

Where can I get this tune?

Re: Moonbots 2.0 - Phase One with the RoboSpartans

LOVE this!

Re: Google Lunar X PRIZE Team Scorecard / Scoreboard

The trick is to do this in a way that actually adds to the visualization and is not just flashy eye candy.

Re: ISDC 2011: There’s a story in here somewhere

Thanks Steve, we've corrected these. This article was not rejected for 5 grammatical errors, their editor could have fixed those in seconds. It was rejected because they didn't like the content.

I heard from the ISDC chair who said he actually liked what I had to say here.

Re: ISDC 2011: There’s a story in here somewhere

I agree that there could be some examples, but that's not why it was rejected. They were looking for something that said the NSS is awesome, this was the best conference ever, and we should all come flocking back next year.

The editor feedback wasn't: "it needs some examples" or "it feels like it's not wrapped up", it was "... after all, this is a publication of the National Space Society and we want to promote the conference and future conferences, as well." <-- therein lies the problem with doing a magazine about your own organization.

I was surprised when I was asked by the conference leadership to attend and organize a GLXP panel, and surprised later when I was asked if I would write a piece about it in the magazine. I didn't mean to suggest that I was surprised that it was rejected. I'm fully aware that the tone of AdAstra is not along the lines of what I wrote.

Re: Evadot Podcast #76 – It’s Moonbots time!

Brand new i7 Desktop in the studio with 2 large monitors. I'm coding, podcasting, writing all at the same time and everything including rendering is fast. I'm thinking about doing video soon as well.

Re: RCSP Team Leader Reflects on International Space Development Conference

You didn't expect me to ask easy questions. You know me better than that!
