yes, he's the man, but we need to put this catch phrase to bed. im all about honoring HK, but we're at a point now where EVERYONE on the team is THE MAN. it's just getting tired.

his pitches are slower and less accurate than they were last year. the Phils' announcers bring it up once every 3 appearances at least. something physically is either wrong with him OR he's another year older, slower, etc.

bottom line, he is a liability - a big enough liability that could cost us a shot at a repeat. He has given fans, teammates, management, the press no reason to think otherwise. this is 09, not 08. the team has had MONTHS to figure out another option at closer and they failed to address it appropriately. "Lidge is my guy," Cholly says. Well, let's see how CHolly's guy handles the 09 playoffs. For our sake, I hope I'm wrong, but he's given NO EVIDENCE he will help this team win.

ugh. i realize this is an opinion piece, but your opinion is misguided. Lidge does NOT have the stuff to get it done. If he doesn't have a lingering injury he's not making public, he's definitely not mentally ready to close for this team. end of story.

When, not if, he blows a game this postseason, I'll be curious to see how you defend him...again.

whoa whoa whoa. Nothing has changed at all! They still have an unclear closer situation (allowing 2 runners in the 9th isn't quelling my fears of a postseason debacle) and the big bats aren't getting the job done lately. Pedro's GS was nice, but not the kind of guy you expect production from. This team needs to wake the F up. I hope last night is the beginning of a nice streak to go into the postseason, but I'm not convinced just yet.

Maybe once the division is clinched, the team will settle, but playing .500 ball during the last 2 weeks of the season is not the best way to enter the playoffs when any of your opponents will most likely be hotter than you.

kieran, you are such a lidge apologist. he had a great year last year and we all are thankful, but the man WILL NOT help this team repeat. it's about confidence. lidge has none right now and won't regain it by the postseason. id rather see them lose with madson, myers, JC, or even jaime moyer as a closer than lidge at this point. at least then you know uncle cholly tried to right the ship - and if the team still fails, it wasn't meant to be.

@billgraffssweatervest: no way we make the playoffs if lidge blows saves down the homestretch of the regular season. We have by no means run away with a playoff spot just yet so don't get ahead of yourself. Lidge can possibly cost us a playoff spot, let alone a playoff win.
