Really, Parking over people's lives and safety. Gee, Ballard has been slated for high density development as an 'urban hub' for years and been developed as a destination neighborhood. Why didn't the geniuses pushing this agenda include a parking structure to the plan for all those people that want to drive and park. Seems rather obvious. Push for legitimate parking rather than against something that is good for the community. The more bikes off the road and NOT in my way when I am driving, the better. And what happens when the bikers get smart and start driving to the farmers market taking up more spaces and adding to the traffic. BIKERS: are you ready to start showing how many cars you take off the road?

Unfortunate. Too bad the lawsuit can't be against the real parties at fault , the business coalition and the chamber. Those of you reactionary knee jerk chumps being sucked in by the sb$g, ballard oil, chamber manipulations need to do research. Honestly. sb$g has a site right next to the trail closer to fremont and that hasn't closed that location down. You really are being duped. I think the bikers would be OK with taking a lane from leary and market for a separate path. Of course that means fewer lanes for your cars. BTW, how is it that these few businesses can use public land for continual private use. Because they have gotten away with it for so long they expect it and sucker people into supporting them. Semi trailers and trucks parked long term or seemingly permanently? I love the trailers with no parking signs on them. Bikers, start reporting infractions. The chamber should be spending their money on lobbying for a real parking facility rather than backing the ridiculous obstructionist suit. I haven't spent money in any chamber members establishment for a long time and will continue that. It appears some members are distressed by all of the negative reactions and want the boycott talk to go away. Then quit the chamber or change the position. There must be enough of us diverting dollars that they notice. Keep it up.

Traffic circles and tighter spaces aren't conducive to truck traffic. That makes the area harder to have industrial businesses in. Spaces for loading unloading and waiting are also needed. So technically (by the letter) might not be against zoning, but certainly against the spirit. But the reality is that all of ballard will be gentrified in the 'urban hub' high density plan. This pushes businesses out to the suburbs making it impossible to live and work in the same area. The motives of the agencies you mentioned are clear in their input and backing of the 'urban hub' scheme. This is just prepping the street for the next inevitable wave of high density housing/retail development that is coming when the economy turns. How can you honestly say the motives behind this project support the business and industries south of Market?

That is a really ignorant statement. There are people that lose jobs and have mortgage or other issues that end up homeless. Hell, a divorce can put people out on the street.

Nice to see a thoughtful reply to an admittedly harsh comment. This stuff is not easy and takes a vigilant eye and work. Waiting for the design meeting is too late. Whether it would have been possible to change events at an earlier juncture is up for debate. The truth is that there are people that have agenda's they want to keep hidden. These agendas affect the citizens. They have to be exposed BEFORE it is too late. It takes research and vigilance and time and then community action to uncover then publicize issues. There used to be investigative journalists that filled this role. Not any more and 'they' use it to their advantage. "They" count on the fact that they can keep things under wraps until it is too late. So no easy solution it seems.

parking is already limited in many neighborhoods thanks to the developments of 12 condo's crammed onto one small lot with garages and driveways too tight for anything other than a stroller. Or the new buildings with lower parking stall requirements pushing residents to park on the street. So the parking argument doesn't get much sympathy.

How can you miss the POINT!!!!! Read slowly. It won't necessarily bring more trouble making criminals to the area, living next to the nimby's. The ones that are here already will not want to live at compass so they won't be housed 'next door' by a sanctioning organization. They will continue the lifestyle they have now, drinking and drugs on your sidewalk. They would be there whether Compass came or not. You kind of proved some people's point by your knee jerk comment without really reading what I wrote. I don't think I can explain any better.

To those that live nearby, it may not be as bad as you think. The people that are doing drugs and drinking in public, fighting and causing the problems you talk about will not be the ones that apply nor get accepted into the building. The bums, criminals and derilects you mention do not want to live where they have to follow rules or go to programs. So luckily for you they will be roaming the streets like they do now, not living next door.

Seems the people driving this landscaping project have motives that are contrary to the current zoning. Sure re-pave to get rid of pot holes. This is about something else. The stated goal is to run all the way to the water, not just near Market. Hmmmm. Reading the proposal there are contradictions and some odd statements. Slippery slope, open the door, yadda yadda. This is a fork in the road that has permanent ramifications for that area between market and the water. I guess the Ballard Blocks dev. showed which way the area would develop and what the City has planned.

This is one of the stupidest ideas EVER. Even more stupid than the belltown project. Like people that move next to the airport and then bitch about the noise. Or move into georgtown and complain about trucks. It has been industrial before you were there. If residents in the area want the RVers gone, then ask for more 'no parking after midnight' as has been done in the area south of market. I can understand that. But this is a STUPID project.

The time to fight this project was many months ago. Why is it that seattle citizens wait until the last minute to bitch and complain about something. Compass buying this property took place a long time ago and was public knowledge. Doing what they do, it was obvious they would build a facility like this. A fight to stop this should have been done THEN. Maybe it is the stupid initiative system that promotes the 'last minute stoppage' mentality in people. Where initiatives are introduced to stop already voted on initiatives. Whether the Compass center is good or bad is not my point here. My point is for the lazy last minute NIMBY's and pseudo activists. You need to keep your ear to the ground and look for these kinds of deals going on to act WHEN something can be done. Not when it is too late. This is Seattle and the projects you want to stop will not have big red arrows pointing at them.

Narakim-Glad you are doing OK. You stated "A lot of money was stolen last night that was not mine" which leads me to believe you were taking the cash from the restaurant to deposit. I would bet that someone made an educated guess, by observation or had information that you were making the deposit and carrying more than just your tips. I live in that immediate area and was very surprised that even a stupid or very brazen mugger would pick that area. People are frequently walking by that area, parking or walking to Oshans and the wing dive. Te smokers from the wing joint and bar next to the smoke shop are usually outside. My intuition tells me this was not a random mugging for a purse.
