Still, the fake rules were a last minute decision by Light because he knew it would throw L off, but L was prepared as soon as he saw them. That's another thing that made L better. He was willing to test the Death Note with criminals, while Light (working as a police officer) sided with the others in the task force in that it was a waste of human life. If Rem hadn't killed L, Light and Misa would have been arrested in little over two weeks. At least that's my guess.

Re: L vs Light

Right, Light used their relationship in a really depraved way. Forcing Rem to use the notebook to kill L so Misa would be safe, knowing what would happen to Rem afterwards.

On the subject of Misa, how would the fight between Kira and L have turned out differently if Misa had never come into the picture? Would the lack of distractions and Misa's careless errors made everything run more smoothly for Light or not?

Re: L vs Light

Right, but you also have to remember, Ryuk really wasn't much help to Light. Ryuk stated multiple times that he wasn't going to help Light or L either way. And the only reason he told Lightabout Raye Pember was for his own personal interests, not to help Light. In the end, L was definately the better of the two because he was outsmarting Light even before he knew where Kira was (tv broadcast with Lind L Tailor). L died because Light used the connection between Misa and Rem to his advantage.

Re: Who is really better?Near, L, or Mello?

Of course L is more original than Near. Both Near and Mello were created with attributes of L. They both got his bored, dull eyes and part of his reasoning ability, not to mention that all three of them would do anything to catch Kira, even kidnap people. Near was given more physical characteristics of L, such as his awkward sitting position, his obsession with stacking things, and his disshelved appearance. Mello wasn't given as many characteristics. In fact, about the only thing Mello had in common with L was his love for sweets.

By the way, has anyone else noticed their names? L, M(ello), N(ear).... just thought I'd bring up that random bit o trivia.

Re: Supporter of Kira?

I support Kira, but thinking deeper on the subject; he had quite a few flaws in his master plan. First off, I understand killing criminals and those who would get in his way. The people that chased him were hindering the justice he was trying to bring to the world. A man who hinders the punishment of crime is just as bad as the person commiting the crime. But, Light was abusing his power. Kira became totally faithful in his own infallibility, and that was his major flaw. Really though, Light should be applauded on hs performances. Keeping so calm and making sure no one ever saw anything more than a rightous young man, that takes effort. Believe me I know. All I'm really saying with all this is, this world needs someone to bring it out of the pit that society has dug itself into. But I don't think the entire decision f who lives and who dies should rest in the hands of one person. And that's all I'm saying for now.
