Not the end of the world, but it is preventing me from ordering an anniversary present because I can't access my email for a confirmation. Whomp, like my wife is going to buy this excuse... I swear, the only time I notice DreamHost is down is when I have an actual need for it to be up, which is rare.

Re:

          On Interviewing Software Engineers

Very good article and timely for my current situation. I left my software engineering position in March this year and have been taking my time looking for the next opportunity. Two companies sent me "homework" assignments after I applied online. This rubbed me wrong immediately because I don't like them asking for my time without first putting in a little of their time in the form of an interview at the very least.

I don't want to work for a company that operates that way. Intended or not, they've communicated to me that their primary concern isn't "who" I am. When I've interviewed candidates I'm thinking "Can I work with this person? Do I want them on my team? Will they get along with the rest of the team?" RockStar or not, if I can't see working with someone for an extended period of time, it doesn't matter how brilliant they are, it will never work out in the long run.

I didn't burn any bridges, but those two companies I mentioned got a polite "thanks but no thanks" from me. I want to work for an organization that wants to work with me, not just work me.

Re: Making 3D Logos in Motion | Ripple Training

With the introduction of 3D text this idea was one that occurred to me but I don't have a font tool...until now. Others who may want to play around with this concept might want to use glyphyr studio, an online tool for creating fonts. It's free and not much more overhead, though you do need to export an svg from your graphics tool. (No pasting in glyphr, just importing.) It's a great way to create an OTF for Motion/FCPX though. Thanks for the videos, they are fantastic!

Re: How to Pan and Zoom Video

I continue to be a fan of Ripple, Mark, and Steve! This Under 5 series has been great. I don't know where to send requests, but something I'd love to see: using Motion with FCPX clips. For example, what would be the workflow for this particular clip (skateboarding)? Since the switch to FCPX I've used a variety of methods for "roundtripping", but I'd love to see what your recommendation is. Thanks as always!

Re: This Week’s Tasting Notes

I've heard rumors that some people have had trouble with The Green Dragon and service. I don't see this as an issue of a mobile platform's ability to display the site. Rather, it is about speed and page size. Mobile users are not always in the best of coverage, and if a user is spending tens of seconds waiting for graphics to download, rather than consuming your content, then you've shot yourself in the foot (unless you are an artist and images ARE your content).

Giving the user a choice is the best alternative, but I'd rather give them a speedy mobile site first, and let the savvy user switch. It's far easier to see the mobile "on|off" button on a mobile site than buried on the bottom of a regular site. Look for yourself and see if you don't agree.

Personally, I'm more concerned that mobile users can actually play my podcast and understand how to if they are on a non-flash device, than how it actually looks at 3 inches! But that's just the podcaster in me speaking :D

Keep spreading the good word!

Re: http://scottrogers.tumblr.com/post/1242622276

Glad to see you made it, thanks to your connect back in the states, I hear ;-) Keep posting when you can, I'm loving it.

Re: http://scottrogers.tumblr.com/post/1234569052

I know I've asked this before, but what App are you using for this photo?
