Just 6.4% of Minnesota Public Radio's Annual Operating Budget comes from taxes.

Now keep in mind, that is *JUST* MPR, not The Current, so let's exaggerate a bunch and say that The Current takes up 50% of MPR's overall budget, that would mean that only $2.5 million dollars out of MPR's $88 million yearly annual operating expenses comes from tax dollars.

I'll take that investment over most every other thing that our taxes go to any day of the week.

While I agree they've been on a bit of a downhill slide since 'Boys and Girls In America', Franz wasn't on the first album either, and that's still my second favorite of theirs...

I think people overstate his influence... Have you HEARD his solo album?

Anyway, the new album isn't amazing but it's way better than 'Heaven Is Whenever', and that's all I had hoped for.

Beats has some great things going for it, but until it's web interface (or a desktop app is released?) improves greatly, i'll likely stick with Rdio for now. Rdio has very very few faults for me.

i don't think anyone is arguing that he truly means any of the more deplorable lines on this record, but for me personally it just comes across as "shock for shock value sake", which has never been something I've enjoyed too much in my music. shock for the sake of reflection or thought is more my style, which Kanye has done well in the past.

I kept reading review after review wanting someone to actually have the balls to call out the lyrics for what they (mostly) are.

I'm glad at least some critics are able to take off their fan hats long enough to give this album the fair criticisms it deserves.

That's not to say I dislike it, just that so many of those lines (among many others) you listed above, make it hard to love.

there was no keyboard on stage... it was a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer on a minimal kit (as per usual, and it's cymbal, not symbol)

That was definite their "breakout" album for sure, but the venue sizes they're playing this tour are a lot bigger than most shows on the High Violet tour. I know a lot of people personally that got into them via HV as well.

But you're right, it was a bit presumptuous of me. Didn't mean it as a diss or anything however.

those aren't even remotely the two best songs on this album.

judging by the songs on past records you prefer most, it seems you're mostly a fan of their heavier songs? If so, i'm surprised the two songs they released first are the ones you singled out... Sea of Love and Graceless are heavier (and imo better) than both of those songs.

Slipped is one of the best songs Matt has ever written lryically, and I Should Live In Salt is just a stunning opener.

I'd say keep listening, if you're a fan of the band i don't know how you could find this "boring" compared to High Violet.

while SolaceBot may not dig BJM, solace has enjoyed a few of their shows over the years. not too big on their studio output save for a handful of tunes unfortunately though. plus their shows became a bit too of a spectacle to attend post-Dig. maybe it's gotten better and a lot of those new fans have fallen off, I can't say.

as for Danger in music... i prefer good songs and melodies over being "entertained" and seeing a trainwreck. Anyone can get around on stage, roll around, cut themselves, take a dumb, bite the head off a bit, rant about the government, etc., not everyone can write a melody with multiple part harmony like 'God Only Knows'

that's not to say i don't enjoy some artists/bands who partake in rock and roll excess and antics, but if the songs aren't there for me, my interest drops off rather quickly.

p.s. if you truly paid much attention to my twitter feed like you apparently claim to, you'd realize I'm not the biggest Rhymesayers fan, especially Atmosphere. I appreciate them from a business/local music sense, but musically not a favorite

not only was Never Better the best P.O.S. album to date, it was also one of the best releases of 2009 PERIOD.

C+ for effort though. i'm kind of flattered.

fwiw, they started selling tickets before the lineup was fully announced the last 3 years (and did the live broadcast thing too), so that's nothing new... it just took a little over 24 hours last year to sell out (and a few days the year before, but non-members still got a chance to buy tix in 2010).

and while you may have seen many of those local bands multiple times in the last year or two, out of 10k people who will be at RTG, i bet 75%+ of the people haven't seen more than 1-2 of the bands in the last year.

RTG is not a show for the diehard music fans and avid concert goers anymore, it really hasn't been since it came back, so that is no surprise to me personally.

that said, even though I have another engagement that night, and while the lineup would not personally be my "dream" lineup by any means, i would still love to attend and most definitely would have a fantastic time, because i like 3 of the 5 acts quite a bit and enjoy the other 2.
