Largo, FL. Connection is good but WoW DNS is down. I was able to get on using Google's public DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

We've been running Volume Gateways for several years and this looks like an obvious switch for us. We were concerned about cost but if we can live with HDD & a Single-AZ deployment that cost is attractive too.

Our critical need is to have the NAS in the cloud during a DR event (we're in a flood zone in Florida) but SG Volumes are not perfect for this as we have to make a snapshot, mount it to a Windows EC2, then reverse the process to a new SG volume after the event.

I can't login on my Roku. Worse, because we subscribed to HBO through Roku, I can't login anywhere else because the login is not recognized as a HBO Go or HBO Max login. I understand this is because Warner is playing hardball with Roku, but FINE, Warner, don't screw ME in the process, let me have a HBO Max subscription that works on my Roku.

There is indeed no copy editing in this digital age. Even books from the best printing houses now primarily get "mechanical edits." My wife was a copy editor, and we have watched the decline and fall of quality standards and editing over the last ten years.

We know Zimmerman went after Martin and started the altercation. That he got himself injured is only proof that there was a fight in a situation he created. If he had not carried a gun and gone after a teenager on the public street, there was no way he could have been in that fight and no way anyone would have died.

As for the trial, the jury ruled that the government had not proved its case. Now a teenager is dead and Zimmerman continues his career of violent episodes and arrests.

It is absolutely imperative that you not call someone a fascist unless you are sure that's what they are.
The twitter cognoscenti are guilty of this, and many other signs of brittleness and intellectual poverty. I remind myself often that it is a mistake to pay attention to what the noisiest people are saying online.. or you end up with a badly misshapen picture of the country.

"The boy who cried 'Hitler!'" - a play in one act. There was only one Hitler. Trump is not Hitler. It's more fun (and a lot more accurate) to cry "Berlusconi!" since 9/10ths of the audience doesn't have a basic grasp of modern politics or even who ol' Silvio was.

I reposted this mainly for the fun with the Overton window idea. That is an examplar of how the fringe hacks the norms of the news media to get a larger share of the discussion. Unfortunately, if people with odious ideas have worked there way into the mainstream (or a West Wing office), you have have a dilemma - who grant them some credibility by debating, but if you don't debate, you cede public space to them.
