My problem with Amazon is that they are trying to rewrite history and squash a good company that was simply using an open API. If you want total control (which seems impossible in the days of Web 2.0), don't publish the API.

Re: Please Meet My Evil Online Clone

Sorry. Flexibility doesn't seem to exist, but rigidity and IT policies and standards certainly do. IT believes themselves to be the keeper of wisdom and now web (in my experiences, and I try to keep an open mind given that my ex-boyfriend was a system admin) and as such has managed to force every other department to adhere to a poor decision because "that is what has been previously decided as the standard."

I want to believe that joining together is an option and I always offer them the opportunity to be involved, but at the end of day they either don't want to be involved, refuse to open their minds to new thinking, or just don't get it. The IT departments I've worked with just aren't ready to take on websites because they're still trying to get infrastructure right, so in that sense I have to agree with Ian.

Re: Worlds Worst Email App Gets Worse: Aircraft Simulation Meets Inbox

I don't know about anyone else, but I've had some of the most frustrating experiences of my life at LAX. Commenting just to comment is pointless (for me), if I'm not going to add value to the conversation then I'm comfortable with just being a reader/observer.

I read a ton of blogs and find myself incredibly engaged in many different discussions or topics. I find it daunting though to read through an enormously long list of comments, but I usually do it if the subject matter is compelling enough and if I want to comment. My logic is that I should know what other people are saying before I put in my 2 cents; I feel obligated to leave informed comments. Sometimes this turns the time I allot for blog reading into hours, but I suppose that is my own time management issue. Is there a rule of thumb around the percent of comments to read before commenting yourself? (I think I read about 75% of the comments here and that took at least 15 min.)

Re: Black Jack With The Devil

LOTGK, I can only assume your kidding about the hammer/fenders comment?
