Maureen has a habit of borrowing from bloggers with rather light attribution. This case seems to be fairly egregious but it's not Janet Cooke level. It's stealing words rather than just making shit up. While that doesn't excuse it, it does make it easier to try to explain away.

Part of the whole teabagging joke was to play it straight (and perhaps a little smirk ala Ana Marie Cox) and let the double entedres roll. Spelling it out so graphically sucks the humor right out of it.

I think some very savvy people were able to correctly assess the risk of these securities. Only it wasn't the brain trust at AIG, which is why they (and now we) were taken to the cleaners when things went south. A few people must have gotten very rich on this fiasco, I just don't know who.

I went to a Pi Day Party. We had pizza pie, spinach pies, vegetarian pot pies, apple pie, cherry pie, and chocolate pie. Since it was also Albert Einstein's birthday we played Pin The Mustache on Albert and the prize was moon pies.

Dowd is mocking herself for pulling a Friedman which rather subtle of her. She also throws Brooks under the bus by quoting him in a way that makes his sounds like a pompous ass. I bet that is the last time he splits a cab with her without getting a non-disclosure agreement. A lot of people are going to quote this column out of context and think Maureen is dissing Michelle when it is the opposite. Maureen defends Michelle saying that she can show off her body and be bright.

I thought Rose was going to smack Denby for saying Dowd had no "seriousness of purpose." In my fisking of the interview, I nail Denby for being a venal hypocrite. Denby's only beef with Dowd is that she says things he disagrees with.

The whole article has a subtext about what it takes to succeed in a My Fair Lady sort of way. It isn't enough to be bright and funny as a woman. I think that Maureen Dowd feels a kinship with her.
