Dr Ramanathan is a leader in the field of Indian musicology and research.

There is scope for more research to occur about contemporary performance practice of Carnatic music, instead of music of the sastras.

As touched upon at the end, there is a lot of opportunity for Indian music research to occur abroad, outside India. This is already happening with PhD topics related to Indian music being explored in Europe, USA and Australia.

Re: A December 2001 concert available for download

I am having problems contacting Charsur with a site problem. Their online email form is not working either and they do not provide a contact email address on the site. How can I contact them?

Re: Pantuvarali, Abheri etc

This same issue was raised in the rasikas.org forum recently. Why the need for such confusion in nomenclature? In the past the Music Academy Experts' Committee had lenghty debates on particular ragas, acceptable phrases, etc. Has there been such a discussion about Abheri? Some artistes like R. Vedavalli render Nagumomu using the 20th mela variety, which gives the song a more sombre mood. How can we verify how Thyagaraja conceived this song to create the mood of the lyrics?

Re: The Sanjay Subrahmanyan Show - Episode 1 - Introduction & Tanjavur S Kalyanaraman

Well done Sanjay! After downloading the podcast to a USB drive, I listened to it in the car. Looking forward to more episodes featuring your musical insights, interviews, etc.

Re: Why I chose vocal over violin?

The other thing about blogging is that we get first hand knowledge about a personality. I hear stories about past masters like GNB or Ariyakudi and while these are interesting anecdotes, they are always second or third hand accounts. Generations down the line who may hear your music need not speculate about many questions (for example why you stopped playing the violin) because they can read it in your blog.
