I went through this last year. My advice is: find a Facebook group for the same class of parents at the same college or university that your kid(s) are at. If there doesn't exist a group just for parents of that particular class, start one. Belonging to the one that I do has been, and continues to be, a wonderful way to connect with others going through similar feelings. (And it's also a great way to share tips and info that helps our students navigate university life.)

On the MLB Network last night, they flashed a graphic showing that Brach has thrown the third most pitches (1200-something) of all relievers in the major leagues this season.

Terrific post. Wonderful that you are appreciating and having fun with the sheer joy of the sport at this age. I wrapped up coaching my son from t-ball through 9th grade baseball last year; this article is a wonderful tribute to baseball coaches everywhere. It's a cliche to say that it goes by so fast, but it really does. Every season, every variant of the team, is precious in its own right. One slight suggestion would be to alter the title to "Requiem from a little league coach"

yeah, what's the deal? He hasn't started in like two weeks, feels like forever with all the extra off days. I know he wasn't off to a hot start with the bat, but Pearce also wasn't hot, and Pearce worked through it....

The thing I don't understand about this lineup and the current patched-together roster is that if Machado, Cabrera, or Navarro gets injured, there's no backup infielder with Parades at DH. I don't think Buck will let a pitcher bat in that situation, but maybe he would. If Buck doesn't want to have a pitcher bat, and we have an injury iat 3B, SS, or 2B, then the only other options are pretty crazy. Pearce comes in to play 1B, Davis can play 3B, then Machado moves over to short if Cabrera or Navarro get hurt.... it all seems very un-Buck like.

Read what Roch wrote more closely. He just said the same rules apply; if the Rangers don't keep him on the roster for the whole season, he must be offered back to the Mets.

@Dan G - great point. Indeed, there is no way the O's can afford what he'll get on the FA market, esp with Boras as agent. Yep, this is the last year we get to have Wietey. I view this year as the last year of the core team that blasted their way onto the radar screen in '12. But we'll continue to roll new parts into the team as they fit. That's just the way it works in baseball today.

When the O's acquired De Aza last year, I too, was in the "why are we getting him? We don't need yet another outfielder?" But with the departure of Nick (surprise) and Cruz (no surprise), it was a terrific move. I expect very big things from De Aza in 2015. He needs to be a spark plug for the team, with OBP, wheels, a great glove, and occasional power. He can be all that for this team this season.

I am in Western Mass myself. There are others in all 6 New England states I believe, and naturally there are several folks in the Boston area.
