I've been meaning to get a lil more active on Pinterest but the strategy sounds like a great way to get started and organized. Definitely looking into making my images more Pinterest friendly.

Re: Why investing in music marketing is not just a numbers game

Great article. The numbers can only gauge so much in regards to just reach, but great point stressing on engagement and relevancy to your brand. Brands can be blinded by short term goals of just having a certain audience's attention, however lack that big picture vision.

You stated it perfectly with "Social stats should only be used to support the strategic rationale, rather than lead it" I see way too many brands using the opposite approach and seems like their default rationale would be it was for shock value when audiences questions why this brand and artist are together. No long term vision.

Re: Justin Boland Shares Insight on Indie Label Struggles & Being Creative | Praverb.net

Loved this interview because I have been a fan of the World Around movement. The music marketing movement has been progressing to a point of developing identity and Justin has provided me over the years with great insight into "Re-brainstorming" and exhasuting your options. I've learned it does take time and It is a tough grind but I like how the interview really stresses a practice mentality that is very inspirational.

It's funny that many years ago I came across his music through the infamous "music biz nerd" circles that I love. Promotion can come with purpose or indirect and that situation proved to me that reach is only as good as the channels you choose to reach out to.

Nice read, Praverb.

Re: Retrospective: Building a $3K per Month Blog in 143 Days

Love the post, very inspirational. Sometimes I get lost with so much planning/whiteboard work that the actual "99% finger-breaking work" should be the focus. Reminds me of the Seth Godin presentation where he says we owe it to ourselves to "Just Ship". Love the blog, always learning.

Re: Why You Need To Take YouTube Seriously In 2013

Great article, I've found myself constantly using YouTube as a search engine. I remember buying a vacuum recently and during search went immediately to the video results. Seems many brands neglect this area, when simple solutions as you mentioned can be used.

I also remember a Darren Rowse post about having a conversational tone in content marketing and what better way for a brand to achieve this by actually speaking.

Your "YouTube In Your Content Strategy" section was well noted. Time to implement more for myself as well.

Re: My Music Marketing Plan Audit

Hi Broadway, I like the positive message on the track"Walking On A Dream". As for the consultation, I take it on a case by case basis, depends on where you are starting from and what kind of help you need. If anything, feel free to send me an email, via my contact page, about what you have in mind and we can talk from there and discuss some solutions.

Re: 3 Soundcloud Articles For Effective Music Marketing Growth

Ain't that the truth. I also appreciate the mention, thanks so much. I personally started using mind maps last year to help visualize projects, instead of just staring at keywords and thinking what to write or what to plan out.

The one thing I like about this method is that you can kill two birds with one stone. You get a chance to plan around some of your major keywords you want to show up for, and get to freestyle write about what you like as well. Striking that balance is the fun part. I've learned that a focus on just one area leaves a blog bland.

Great point as well about how we all need that wake up call at times to get away from the "you" specific mentality. Mind mapping puts you on blast when you see what future articles are laid out and how much of it is all about you.

I would like to see your take on using this method and taking one project for example such as an EP and see how many actionable ideas can come out for your blog. I'm curious to see how a writer like you would approach this, factoring in SEO. Music marketing heads would like to know and we all can learn from one another.

Thanks Hubert

Re: Online Marketing for Blogging Musicians

Good question, I have worked in the past with some artists that found Google ads to be a waste but saw Facebook ads showing some better promise. Its a tough spot to be put in for both of us, but I just have this feeling we will both triumph. I remember hearing a dope underground emcee, Wombaticus Rex say:

"If optimism is dumb, i'll be stupid,
and make some theme music for those that see through it
and leave the average human with the obvious conclusion
that there are no average humans, thats an optical illusion"

music reach is endless....Thanks homie.

Re: Starting From Scratch With Defined Expectations

Thanks Hubert, spoken like a fellow journeyman. I totally agree with your goosebumps comment about the same feeling with a dope break or effective campaign.

Even when I was just full time emceeing, I always loved helping others with any aspect of their music, whether making beats, collaborating, or attempting to mixdown music. Even with this blog, I am a believer that we don't have to be the next Jay Z to enjoy making some money off of your music. You are right with Creativity and Survival in the music arena. You can't sleep, and always have to push innovation to its highest. I love the challenge.

Part of me feels like there is a little Too Short in all emcees, busting flows till your beard turns gray..lol..I just look forward to music creation and promotion, wherever the road may lead.

I appreciate the support and will listen to your advice: it's time to blaze trails...

Re: Marketing Albums But Selling Singles, Now What?

Thanks Justin, appreciate the insight and advice! I think you nailed it on the head with the belief that some artists feel that if the big stars aren't doing it then it must not work. With indie artists making an impact, it's really up to people like us to use these forums to help each other out, and innovate.

I believe the focus now should be on what many in the music marketing community are pushing, which is the direct to fan model. Don't think of list building as just a task. Use it as an extension of your conversation in hopes to get the fan to trust your brand. We dont have to think of gimmicks but we do have to make it interesting for our fans.

Good luck with your promotion of your group and keep me posted on what has worked for you.

Re: The Best Damn Dog Catcher That Ever Lived

Very inspirational, Kevin. Awesome to see your hard work blessing you with many opportunities you deserve. I've been feeling the pressure recently to wear multiple hats, which led to alot of self reflection. It's actually dope hearing, "be the best dog catcher that ever lived", because I realized I could give a better effort, maximize potential. Thanks for the push.

I too was a fan of the Cosby's and while I didn't rock the high top fade like you, I did want a Gordon Gartrelle lol. I love using Google Alerts. You get to specify what keywords such as artist names, songs, albums and get alerted via email or Google reader when your keywords are mentioned online. Great way to spark new conversation with fans that are talking about you.

I like the fact you mentioned not to just think about band names but use them for different purposes. I have some keyword alerts set up for music licensing or "music reviews" to find new opps for music promotion.
