I don't go to social just to rant, I go there because I just want someone to listen. When it works, I gain a lot of respect for a company -- and when it doesn't, it's just a nail in the coffin.

Michael J. A Template Language

Though I can certainly understand the want for a more elegant templating solution for WordPress, I think the fact that it's php and therefore more "complicated" is precisely what makes it so powerful.

I got started developing blog templates for Textpattern in college and loved it, because it combined my knowledge of HTML with an easy-to-understand templating system. I was able to go from zero to custom blog theme very quickly. I also tried WordPress (in its infancy at that time) and was scared off by its php and decentralized templating system (so many files!). Not surprisingly, I quickly had bigger ideas and was limited by Textpattern's capabilities.

Over time I've come to realize that's what makes WordPress so important. It's not a blogging platform. We're able to make world-class websites on this platform because it *isn't* simple. I think that simplifying WordPress -- and finding ways to streamline development for specific kinds of projects -- is a good and noble cause, I just don't think there's a one-size-fits-all approach to it.

Michael J. Mmm...tasty.

As far as won-tons, I made some really tasty ones with pork filling once. I think the recipe is in one of my cookbooks...

Michael J.
