It's not something you can overcome with a stronger work ethic, more practice, etc... Yes that helps but it won't solve the problem.

The problem is how you handle absolute uncertainty as a career path AND everything else. This is something you can't prepare for until you're in the trenches. It's like someone telling you that having a child is hard, but then you have one and you laugh at how naive you were beforehand.

This aspect of the startup life needs more attention, so kudos to you for making it happen.

Re: New Chapters: A farewell from the shortest member of the LAUNCH DFW team

Thanks for all you've done Rachel! Is your business model to make a % on all hours billed through your platform?

I've used Robert Half for stuff like this in the past. Are you competitive with their rates?

Do I get some kind of personal concierge to walk me through the process or is it DIY?

Re: Engineers Vs Sales People: How to Respond When You Lack a Feature the Prospect Requests

When you're in sales it's easy to have the mindset that you have to know everything. Therefore the question you posed from the engineer is difficult for most sales people b/c it makes them seem vulnerable or unprepared (in their eyes).

Engineers conversely only want to focus on problems that actually exist (versus ones conceived in the minds of sales people), so getting to the root of it makes perfect sense.

The trick (for B2B companies especially) is knowing how to get at the root of the problem. Customers are especially bad at articulating solutions, so if you're not careful you'll spin your wheels reacting to side effects instead of resolving the actual problem.

Re: Raise $200K in 2 minutes!

Great info Craig, thanks!

Re: How Can We Help You?

Raj,
Very appropriate article and I suspect this is a question that many people have been waiting for someone to ask. I also suspect many new entrants to the Dallas startup scene aren't quite sure how to answer this question, or are too scared to ask it in the first place.

I remember back at the beginning when I didn't know the difference between html and css (this is true), I was too afraid to ask (publicly) for help because I didnt even know what I needed.

One thing I think we need more of (and I would love your help with this), is to share more founder stories. Not startup pitches, but founder stories. Who are you, why are you doing what you're doing now. What skills do you have that others might find value in. That type stuff.

Re: Facebook is a Listening Tool

Great blog post Misty! I definitely agree that multifamily marketers typically treat social like another advertising platform rather than a conversation with their residents.

In your opinion, is this due to a lack of time, resources, or some latent fear of what resident engagement will result in?

Re: Raise $200K in 2 minutes!

What kind of traction did you guys have at this point?

Re: Why We Need to Stop Using the Term “Disrupt”

I blame the prevalence of pitch coaching and the like.
