We rely alot on pre-packaged foods that are loaded with sodium. I noticed that there was alot of sodium in some of my Mountain House foods too. I plan to print some new recipes for low salt and low fat cooking.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 5 (SUNDAY)

Wow. This is a big one. I hope we can get computer back up soon. Also, I need more fuel for cooking. The interesting thing about emergencies is that you never know where you will be when they strike. I would hate for something to happen while I was apart from my family. I really need to train my kids to know what to do as well.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 4 (SATURDAY)

This is my favorite challenge so far. We are making bread today and pea soup in the crock pot. This is one of the reasons why we are storing food. If my husband were to lose his job, it gives me peace of mind to know that I could feed our family for 3 months just on our food storage. Ideally, I would like to have a year supplies stored, but I am working slowly. I know that many people do live like this everyday.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 3 (FRIDAY)

We are having pasta and sauce, veggies and I found a box cake mix for dessert. I need to add more comfort foods and desserts to my food storage.
The only other thing I had was a couple boxes of instant pudding. That would do in a pinch, but I would rather be able to present a homemade apple pie.

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: Day 2 (THURSDAY)

Sorry to be gross, but this brought to mind that I may need to stock extra sheets and bedding. If family members are nauseous and throwing up, you can go through your linens really quickly. Maybe some additional buckets may be handy. Also, having easy to serve meals is handy for kids, if parents are sick and they need to fend for themselves. Better stock up on more Gatorade and Ginger Ale too!

Re: The 7 Day Challenge: DAY 1 (WEDNESDAY)

I realized that I have some major holes in my preps. I am making a list of all the things that I have put off. I realized that I have not made any preps for our pets! I also need to store extra medicines to keep on hand.
