I hope you have been well. Anyway "may" and "rumor" serves only to prove my point. If there is another question it must be why we need to believe stuff about people we don't know? "Fan" truly is short for "fanatic".

I tell you what else, what a missed opportunity at Dragon Dynasty to really influence the market they claimed to want to represent. It boggles the mind.

(if you do any youtube my channel is misterjones2000.)

Re: Former kung fu starlet Kara Hui talks

Steve, do not use my comment to continue to spread "apparent" rumors about people you don't know.

Re: Former kung fu starlet Kara Hui talks

Steve, pay attention. You are just repeating rumors. No you DON'T know why she is not confirming (nor dening) the widely believed perception that Mr. Lau was her instructor or for that matter per your statement "apparently" dating Mr. Lau.. "Apparently"... what in your mind constitute "apparent"? Other than people (like yourself) spreading the same rumors. You could distinquish yourself apart from the other rumor spreaders by providing some sort of "apparent evidence" and then I would stand humbly corrected. As it is you are just using my comment to further spread what could be false information. Do me a favor and do it on your own dime.

Re: Former kung fu starlet Kara Hui talks

I would like to ask Ms. Hui what she thinks of the common belief of her relationship with Mr. Lau. One, by the way, I have never heard her confirm. In fact in her interview on the extras on MY YOUNG AUNTIE released by Dragon Dynasty she said Mr. Lau diD NOT teach her kung fu but alluded to her family's previous experience in Southern style kung fu and how someone else on the set of the movie gave her action directions.

Re: First pics of Jackie Chan in ‘Kung Fu Kid’

Weighting in on Mr. Chan's comment about his son, I see a father disappointed in his son's decision not to follow in his martial footsteps. I imagine right now JayCee is missing Brandon who would have been able to support what I believe to be a son of a legend always being expected to live up to his father's ability and wanting no part of that pressure. Watching his son's theactrical perfomances (particularly INVISIBLE TARGET) neither Mr. Chan nor his son JayCee have anything to be ashamed of. It is hard for any parent (Chinese or not) to have hopes and aspiratiions for their children (and in their own judgement) see their children fall short of their potential. Universally it is hard for partents to "let go" and allow the next generation to go their own way.
Celebrity only makes this phenomenon more difficult eg. Joe Jackson vs. Michael Jackson.

Culturally parents "badmouthing" their children is usually done to not be perceived as being overly proud of themselves and their children. It is a public "face" and not always indicative of their true feelings towards their offspring. Again this is not strictly a Chnese thing: Hello, Mr. Cosby.

Re: First pics of Jackie Chan in ‘Kung Fu Kid’

Xie xie. It is the same as Wesley Snipes used for the character in The Art Of War 2. The founder was a prison inmate with the nickname "mother" or "mother dear". I have a high regard for Mr. Yune for doing something about real martial artist's lack of work on film by doing the Spike Lee thing. As one who agrees with Mr. Yune's opinion on this I support the film.

Re: REVIEW: Kickboxer (1989)

I enjoyed this film very much when it came out and ate plenty of popcorn. In the words of the immortal Bruce Lee: "what was that..., an exhibition?

What I am hoping for before I apologize for being totally wrong about this kid is for him to realize the big shoes he is attempting to fill and to turn around and give us a performance worthy of another nomination for the Hong Kong Golden Horse Awards. For martial artists who may not know The Eagle Shooting Heroes was adapted from the same novel as the Shaw Brothers's THE BRAVE ARCHER starring Alexander Fu Sheng (all three parts). A lot of the Shaw Brothers movies including some Venom titles were adapted from Novels written by JIn Yong; the pen name of Louis Cha a master of wuxia literature. I had been watching a fan sub on youtube. I hope the subtitles on it are tighter than the ones on Yong Chun however. I have seen the 1982 and 2003 T.V. versions as well as all three of The Brave Archers. This series is also known as THE LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEORES.

Re: Action director Leung Ting talks ‘Five Venoms’

I found the interview I mentioned below. However what movie was he talking about? Maybe he is talking about the planning stages of the 5 Venom movie. Because in the finished version there was no spider, no eagle and no scorpion kick from behind and over the head. Philip Kwok and Robert Tai have their own take on Master Ting's contribution to the 5 Venom movie. Since it was less than flattering I am too chicken to quote it, I just don't need that kind of grief. I believe I read it in an interview of Robert Tai on HKcinemagic. In Master Ting's defense maybe it was just too long ago for him to remember what happened exactly and he was going strictly from his memory.

Re: Jay Chou is ‘Green Hornet’ sidekick Kato

Not this time brother. I am a 52 year-old NYC born and raised black man. I am a fan of the old Shaw Brothers movies. Since this movie is not fan generated project, I would have to say that making money for the studiio is its top priority. We are just talking about it because of Bruce Lee's past involvement but we still don't know what kind of Green Hornet they are producing. It's their baby and it is totally up to them. There is nothing wrong with art for art's sake but being in denial about money moving the world, in my opinion, is not in our best interest. We can strive for a quality product that also makes money. Again Bruce Lee set a great example his movies were good and they made a ton of money.

To darrinkemp
I am the one who is wrong. It is indeed called THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT. I stand corrected. Thank you very much. It was loaned to me by a friend who is also concerned about the future of martial art movies by real martial artists and I liked it enough to look for an opportunity to give it a mention.
Nice to hear from you.

Re: Jay Chou is ‘Green Hornet’ sidekick Kato

To Lionclaw77
I understand the term "most people". The thing is; if what you say were true the studios wouldn't keep making money hand over fist making these movies with these pop stars and it is the reason why they keep on doing so. Most people just keep buying the tickets to see these movies with these pop stars in them--which are made not for martial artist or martial arts but for profit.

And by the way, "most people" disagree with you about Michael Keaton's protrayal of Batman hence the ticket sales and 2 sequels.
Bruce Lee was a very unique talent in that he was as knowledgeable about the Hong Kong movie industry as he was skilled in the martial arts. His contributions to the international movie industry were timely and historic. Both Jackie Chan and Jet Li really made their mark after they took control of their movies from the studios and became hands on in the production process. This website is instrumental in incouraging other martial artists to do the same but if martial artist wait the studiios to cast them based on their skills and not there market share they have a long wait. See Tony Jaa as an example. Movies with pop stars in them are not going to disappear as long as they make money for the studios. In my opinion a more proactive approach in supporting martial art movies produced by martial artists will encourage more of them. Have you seen the movie THE FIFTH AMENDMENT?

Re: Jay Chou is ‘Green Hornet’ sidekick Kato

Jay Chou is a 30 year old multi-acting award winner (2 awards) He is also an internationally reknown singer-composer with multi-million selling albums. He is the kid playing the 2nd son in Curse of the Golden Flower which I liked very much. He deserves a shot at the role of Kato which was played by Bruce Lee on television but did not define Bruce Lee. In fact Bruce Lee's character was every bit the opposite of the bowing, serving, second banana sterotype role Hollywood would only think of giving any minority in the 1960's.

So...back to racism in the martial arts I think it is more important to find out what kind of Green Hornet and Kato are we going to see get produced? I mean, it's not even called The Green Hornet and Kato. It's called the Green Hornet. Yet we are all wanting to see Kato. It was mainly Bruce Lee's protrayal of this character that made this silly television show even worth watching. How will Asians be portrayed in this movie? When will it be set?

Will this production eve be martial arts driven? We certainly hope it will, again because of Bruce Lee but the characters were created by George Trendle and Fran Striker for a 1930's RADIO program. Kato was originally described as Japanese but then later Korean and even as Filipino. My point is there is alot of room to work with here depending on the writers. Let's keep an open mind and judge it when it comes out. Anyone remember the reaction of fans when they annouced Michael Keaton as Batman?
