To be clear, I definitely agree with the sentiment of the article nonetheless. The bigger lesson is that if you're moving quickly, smart, formidable and bringing value to the company - then stealing the idea shouldn't be possible or attractive.

The short version of the story is that someone that I met at a networking event built a scaled down version of my idea and it took off.

With my experience, I just couldn't get the idea off the ground. I stopped on the idea, it's not like the competition stopped me. The end result is that the product was developed and I became a user.

Re: Videos From The On-Demand Conference

Would love to get these as audio podcasts.

Re: Email Will Last Forever

Thanks for writing the article. I'm curious, why no mention of SMS? I'm not arguing that it could kill email, I'm wondering why it is disqualified out of the gate.

Re: Arrogance Is Good: In Defense of Silicon Valley

I think it's a play on Greed Is Good speech from Wall Street the movie.

Re: Integrating Stripe with Ruby on Rails Application

Should step 6 line 23 be handleStripeResponse: (status, response) ->

Adding the dash "-" I'm sure that is called something. Pins Authorization Addendum

So I don't have much of a problem, just a note. When I am not logged in, I can edit and destroy the pins I created previously, without a user. I'm guessing this is because current_user == pin.user as they are both nil. Not a problem, because I assume will validate the presence of user_id soon enough on the Pin model. I just wanted to mention it.

If this is incorrect, please let me know.

Re: InstallRails

I actually figured it out on my own after a while longer. I was paying $100 per month, which was the going rate when I joined 18 months ago (now I feel suckered). Anyway, I went to the gym regularly and only quit because they canceled the boxing class I attended.

When I quit I told them flat out that I like the gym, but I didn't want to pay $100/month just to run on a treadmill. I figured they would at least try to reduce my rate to keep me. I can't believe the new signup rate is $70/month and they didn't even bring that up. Insane.

Re: La Cabrera

Hi-

thanks for all the info. I read AVC regularly and that's how I found your blog. My friends and I just arrived in BA this morning and this post helped us talk our friend out of La Cabrera. We are going to ballo del mattone instead.

We came from Uruguay and I read all ur BA posts on the boat over. It's amazing to see your post and then walk by the place a few hours later- it's like Deja vu. Just walked by Freddo.

Anything else in the city that we cannot miss?

Gracias,

mike

Re: Are you starting out in mobile? When there is a real limit, [certain time an item can be purchased, or a number of photos you can post today (or even in your entire lifetime)] it adds value.

Re: Taste Neighbors

Hey Fred,

At one of the meetups last month (think web2NY) I saw a company present their business for a site where users upload video reviews of products and places. At the time I thought it was OK, and while reading this post this company, again, popped in my head.

All the things you say in the post make sense, but I think we are hardwired to look/listen to someone for 3 seconds and we know if they are our taste neighbors.
