If Google, Yahoo, Microsoft or anyone else started supporting handling email differently depending on whether or not it had headers tacked onto it that they themselves defined, it would only work with email being sent from one Gmail account to another, or one Yahoo account to another, or whoever the company you want to use for the example is.

There would be no way to ensure it was supported across the board unless it was implemented as a new internet standard, and even then support for it would likely be spotty, as there are plenty of legacy applications that send email that would have no idea of the existence of these new headers.

Creating a rule(or a "filter" in Gmail's case, or whatever the terminology is for your email client) to sort mail based off the sender, subject, and contents of the email is a far more efficient manner of getting this task done than relying on the sorting to be done by the sender, which is far less reliable. I mean... Imagine if there were a flag you could attach to an email that would mark it as a bill. Emails that had that flag would probably be less likely to be sent to your spam folder, right? So why would anyone sending spam emails ever *not* use this flag? If there were a flag marking an email as important, the sender would be marking this as an important email and not you. Who are they to judge what you consider important?

The onus is on the user to sort their email efficiently; that's the only way it's going to get done right. If you receive so many emails that things are getting lost in the fray, it's time to figure out why, and unsubscribe from some email lists or something.

Re: Here are some real problems for Google to solve while it’s tinkering with Gmail

The fact that you suggest that Gmail support additional headers that are not defined in RFC5322 that the rest of the email clients on the internet would not support and that senders include these additional Gmail-only mail headers shows that you really do not understand how email works. Gmail cannot just arbitrarily create a new email header, nor can they expect the rest of the internet to adopt it and start including it in the emails that they send.

Re: http://mikepayne.tumblr.com/post/371145106

1. I haven't seen it so NYAH! :P
2. Ahh ok I didn't realize it was a foreach loop because the keyword was still for. In C# it's:

foreach (int i in Object.IntegerCollection) { ... } although you could also use "for (i = 0; i < Object.IntegerCollection.Count; i++) { ... }"

Re: http://tylercoates.tumblr.com/post/356432671

Cause Steve Jobs revealed a new device today in a press conference that destroys twitter and overloads the internet

Re: Shorter Excerpts

Dogfish 120 tastes like turpentine but gets you FUCKED up.

Re: Marcela channeling Margeeka - Open Letter to the IMDB news feed

Jon Stewart > *

Re: pilot blue ribbon - oh god. actually i really want purple. even though...

Did you know they're actually scented like the flavor they represent?
