Would be cool to be able to look around while in first person mode. :-) Also, it's been such a long time I've commented on something here. Still following along. I miss daily updates though.

Re: GoPro Fusion camera shoots spherical VR video

There is a setting to up the quality. 360 video is very large and takes time to load, so the video defaults to a lower quality so it will play smoothly, but that's a setting for regular video, the 360 still says it's 1080, but that's because the volume of data is 1080 spread in all directions. Hope that makes sense, just go into the settings on the video and up the quality and wait for it to load.
edit: There's a lot of run on there, but I'm too lazy for good grammar.

Re: Why Game Developers Need YouTubers

I'm not 100% sure and don't want to research on my phone, but I think Vimeo also retains certain "rights" to your content once you've uploaded it. I believe that and lower pay from the site and networks would be why UGC is mainly on YT.

Re: Why Game Developers Need YouTubers

I wish people on YouTube understood it better, meaning the casual users who don't know more about the behind the scenes. The UGC model that YouTube has is self sustaining and YouTube's decisions just increase google's piece of the pie. With that larger piece though, they're not just going to run to the bank. They'll use it to find the programs/YouTube channels that sell the best ads. Unfortunately this goes against the UGC model which allows the community to promote the content it appreciates the most which then will bring greater viewership. Maybe this grab and give type behavior is cyclical and will never end until they've killed the original model. Oh, UGC is "user generated content."

Re: Why Game Developers Need YouTubers

Becoming more like TV is something google has wanted for a long time. For instance, they have channels and stations they sponsor to produce the youtubers you enjoy. They want to promote the content that sells the best ad space so they can make the most money vs the content you actually want to see. Basically, what happened to television but in slightly different contexts. TV is struggling to maintain viewership so you see shows designed to get our attention with outrageousness, but if they had our attention (at least if they had enough of the market regularly) they'd be promoting the stuff that sells the ads. Of course they sell ads on highly watched shows, but if things get too outrageous they can't market it to all businesses and overall value of the ad space comes directly from the number of viewers. YouTube currently gets the best of both worlds (high viewership, and family friendly depending on what you watch, plus targeted ads) and this stuff hasn't changed that advantage yet. Things on YouTube will get worse before they get better because it hasn't hit their wallets yet.

Re: Why Game Developers Need YouTubers

As someone who know many Youtubers who do this as a full time job (and make more money than me as an engineer) I can say that yes this making them question wether or not they'll continue to make things on YouTube. Obviously they have a lot invested in YouTube, but they are moving to other sites and using other ways to try to being on revenue besides directly from YouTube. I don't think this will kill the relationship between YouTube and youtubers completely. I think this it more like when one friend reaches out to shake a hand and the other doesn't reciprocate and has to start questioning if their friendship is mendable. If there are any other major blows, it'd be a serious issue, if not, it'll largely blow over and YouTube will make some adjustments slowly and behind the scenes. They'll realize their mistake and the friendship will mend.

Re: Motorola Droid Bionic ICS 4.0.4, reset if update fails

I placed my order for my new iPhone 5 today. You should too! It felt good. I have also been a huge android, Google and Motorola fan. Thanks for the motivation to try something new Motorola!

Re: Announcing Overgrowth: Villages! - Wolfire Games Blog

Reading this NOT on April 1st ... The music you used in this video and the visual of the steep fall to the water bellow is very pretty, it would be a really nice peacefulness kind of level. I probably will not want to see any more math for the next few weeks lol bad timing! Although, I usually prefer your articles on less "mathy" things anyway. Also, the lack of an every day blog has decreased my regularity quite a bit. I used to visit wolfire every day and yesterday I visited after a very long time (there were 4 or 5 blogs I hadn't seen before).
