Another interesting and thought provoking post! I am relatively new to blogsville. I have been a dedicated reader for a couple of years and then earlier this year took the great leap forward and started a blog of my own. I am a 51 y.o. stay at home mother of four (two in primary school) and I love the world that being a blog owner has opened up for me. I presently tend to follow themes set by bloggers more creative and clever than me because my confidence level in this new medium has not evolved to the point where i can fully express my own ideas although that is starting to happen. I would never deliberately plagiarise another writer/crafters work. There are many things that I see on the internet that bear striking similarities to another persons work, but shouldn't we get this into perspective and acknowlage that the world is a large place and the merging of some ideas will be bound to happen especially in groups as specific as those who use materials to craft. As a crafter of four decades now, i know that there is work out there similar to mine. I have been making baby shoes since my daughter who is 27 was a baby but who says I have the right to claim this idea as my owm? Who gives another crafter the right to accuse me of copying? I acknowlage that there are some deliberate attempts to copy, and that is wrong without crediting the original source. To date my experiece in this blogasphere has been kind, loving and giving and I truly value what I get from it.

well, it took me quite a long time to trawl through all of these comments. and i must say they make some very salient points, most of them i can only confer with.
i am quite new to the world of the blog, although i read many for ages, all the time thinking, dreaming and planning one of my own. i love my blog and i don't think that it is spin, or designed to have people believe that i am something other than my authentic self. i use it to portray and record an aspect of my life that is positive and of which i am proud. i post mainly about the same kind of things that i like to read about on other blogs. as someone else commented i post as i speak, sometimes with a sprinkling of sarcasm or irony but only ever to take the mickey out of me or my life. i believe that we are all hard working (mostly women and mothers) who do this because we like it. a lot of work goes into peoples blogs and i appreciate what i read and the supportive and generous comments that i recieve. and, whilst i write and photograph for me i love to think that someone else is reading and hopefully enjoying

comment number 69, wow what a weird lot we are.
i count-pegs,fruit,vegies,when i run i count steps-not because the numbers or quantities mean anything-just because.
i color coordinate my fabric stockpile which takes so much time i can't get around to tidying my house
i HATE having my feet touched and so consequently have pretty ugly tootsies
i rarely throw anything out which also makes tidying the house a challenge
i can't bear to throw out my children's teeth when they fall out. i keep them in a little box in my room
HELP!

i love my blog, because it is exactly what i wanted it to be, a chronicle of my life and my family (as mundane as that may be) and as it has and is evolving i sometimes feel a bit sensitive about comments (or lack thereof) or readership numbers, but then i remind myself of why i do it. it's for me.
the thing that i sometimes struggle with is the feeling that i am invading a space and being too familiar with people that i don't know, but this is the nature of the tool isn't it? networking with people who have interests like your own.
i think that blogging is an excellent way to focus on the positives in life and really embrace and then share all that is good. i find the negative stuff very toxic and quite honestly i can't sit and read it. i saw the post that you linked on "yarn harlot",and that kind of behaviour is just sad. i think it also highlights the problem facing kids on social networking sites. it is all together too easy to type a mean sentence and send it off in a click and then not see the fallout that it causes for the recipient.
for me this space is ALL about the good stuff and i don't want or need the negative.
thank you Pip, for another thought provoking post. people like you who dedicate so much time and energy to their posts are due a very big congratulations.

wow, these images brought a flood of memories and a tear to my eye. these books were my 27 yo daughters favorites and inspired her to learn classical ballet, a task to which she dedicated herself for 16 years and will one day return to i'm sure. it's amazing how much detail of the beautiful illustrations i can recall, just like it was yesterday and that cute little 4 yo was planted on my lap. Thanks for the memory Pip
