I'm not sure why everyone wants to sit Giles now he seems to be coming out of it. Look at what he's done in the last 10-12 games.

There is a big difference between 550 AB's over 4 years and 560 AB's over 2 1/2. It's a lot easier to be a consistent contributor when your starting every day. He was never given a chance to start in AZ and has earned every right in SD. What has he done with the chance to start here? He's been fantastic. What is the point to this post again?

Trust me I would love to see Drew starting but, ideally you would like to see Giles smash the ball until the deadline so we can give him and his contract to any team that will take it.

And the FACT is that Scott Hairston has never been given the chance to start for an extended period of time before he came to the Padres. He's not going to keep up his .330 average but he is good enough offensively to be a starting center fielder. He's hitting .292 .330 .472 against right handers this year and that's all that matters.

IMO there is no reason to rush Mat Latos. I wouldn't mind seeing him in AAA before the end of the year and on the big league team as a September call up. Then I think it would be smart for them to wait until June of next year to slot him in the rotation to avoid super two status. Durango hits everywhere he goes and deserves a move to AAA if any of those players are going to miss significant time.

I like your idea on Baxter. Having his bat at Catcher makes him much more valuable. He wont go anywhere as a first baseman/outfielder. Having said that I'm not sure how he is behind the plate.

The problem with starting Latos at the beginning of the season could make him eligible for super 2 status making him more expensive for the cost cutting Padres.

Carvajal wasn't a first round draft pick nor was he even drafted. Inman and Garrison were not drafted by the Padres. Dykstra changed his swing and finished the season hitting well over .300 in the last month and hitting 2 homers in the playoffs to lead them to a championship. Let's call him a flop after 1 year. Carillo and Schmidt both had TJ surgery and have plenty of time to still be effective major leaguers. Kulbacki was injured for most of the year and destroyed LE last year.

"Miller, Garrison, Cumberland,Quezada,Viloria have been hurt part of the season or the whole season.

Players getting injured is not the fault of the team.

"Latos, Blanks, Venable are not prospects any more"

How does that take away from the fact that these players still came from the Padres farm system?

No one suggested we are top 10.

You name injured prospects and many that are not even our top prospects. Care to comment on players like Decker, Darnell, Forsythe, Castro, Pelzer, Portillo, Durango, Sogard, Zawadzki, Scribner, Liriano, Galvez, Rincon.....

You can go to any organization and name a bunch of obscure prospects that have had bad years. Evey organization has prospects that flop. It's a part of the game.

I love how you did not respond to, "According to Baseball America's top 10 prospects for each league the padres have at least one in each league they have an affiliate in."

How do you explain that one if our organization is so terrible?

Your farm system rankings are. Several players had a breakout year and we are likely to have multiple players in baseball's top 100.

Did I say he wasn't a dissapointment? I can just acknowlege the fact that changing your swing isn't the easiest thing for a player to do while adjusting to professional baseball. The fact that he did well at the end of the year and in the playoffs shows he was turning it around.

That's funny becuase most of my information comes from those two sites as I am a subscriber to both. I've never said anything like that and if you need to lie to prove a point that's pathetic. Show me where I said I know more. I did disagree with the rankings and our prospects proved their ranking wrong.

Your still avoiding the question. How is a team with at least one player in the top 10 for each league have a terrible system?

Mark McGwire has had a lot more success at the major league level than most hitting coaches.

Lefebvre is a career .251 .323 .378
Ready .259 .359 .387
McGwire .263 .394 .588

I think someone who has one of the best HR/AB ratio in the history of the game is more than qualified to be a hitting coach. Not to mention....

3+ homers in a game 5X, 40+ homeruns 6 times, 500 career homeruns, 7 time homerun derby participant, 12X all star, rookie of the year, olypics, and 3 silver slugger awards. Not many hitting coaches have a resume that looks anything like that chief.
