I agree with mikeysmom, anytime the courier herald makes a mistake they always correct themselves. Everyone knows in politics someone lies and that is what the media is for to get the truth out to the public. I think Kevin is a good news writer and I may not always believe in people's views on things, however it is his job to keep the public aware of what is happening in our towns.

I want all of you to know that this accident was tragic to alot of people. I hope everyone will not judge anyone. Derek and Jake are and were good friends with my son and alot of other kids in the Buckley - Enumclaw area. There was no alcohol involved or drugs. I hope everyone that has read this will talk to their children even more. Any parent that does not sit there and say " my kid would never do this". Please don't be blinded. I am hoping that Derek's death will result in many, many of our kids opening their eyes and say to themselves "I will not speed while I am driving or let my friends speed either" Parents can talk to their kids and it is amazing how most kids say things like " let me make my own mistakes" Well they should but I am a firm believer in talking to other kids about them all taking care of each other. Kids listen to their peer's more then they listen to their parents. I am the mom in the neighborhood, all kids come and talk to me. I tell them to watch out for each other. I talk to my children about everything, however, when they are gone I don't have a camera on them. No one wants anything to happen to our children, not death or going to prison. No I am not a parent of none of these kids but I do know them and so do many other kids. Why the state does not require our teens to go to a class and listen to REAL people who have lost family or friends before getting a license, I don't know. I have requested and requested it to happen..I just hope someday someone will tell me how to make this happen. Not everyone will listen, their teenagers, but I am sure there will be fewer deaths with our teens.

I am not saying you are blaming anyone so please don't take it that way. I just felt it needed to be put in because if you read the Tacoma News Tribune, there is alot of blame in comments and it is sad.

yes this whole situation is terrible. I know I tell all the kids that come here to drive safe. I know the boys that all hung out with all of them, they are all having a difficult time with this. I have so many kids that come over to my house and Derek and Jake came over here quite a bit. I know all the kids know right from wrong, however as people say ' this won't happen to me' If they knew for one second this would have turned out like this they would not have done it. It doesn't change the facts of it happening but hopefully, Derek dying in this crash will save alot of kids that knew him. It is hard when someone you know or love dies, even harder when it happens unexpectedly. I've had many many deaths in my life, all of them hurt tremedously. Many of them unexpectedly. I talk to my children about these things all the time. I just hope when they leave my house they listened to what I had to say. But blame is just making this situation even harder for everyone.
