I have no aversion to old depictions of the towers. But crumbling, exploding skyscrapers are now, for better or worse, part of the iconography of nastiness along with the noose and the electric chair. Similar images, as with all images in the movies, need to be used responsibly by filmmakers.

Roland Emmerich is derivative if only of himself. The Day After Tomorrow, like most of his filmography, is not a great movie, despite some cool visual stuff happening. I'd say his best movie is probably Independence Day, because in 1996 it did really show the ultimate execution of a filmmaker's epic vision in a way that hadn't been done before. These movies are old hat now, but at that time it did have the ability to make you go "Wow."

Sir, it is the cane sugar. When you take a trip to Los Angeles, I shall guide you from taco truck to taco truck. We will sample asada, lengua, al pastor, and carnitas. They will each have a unique taste depending on the particular truck's recipes. And yet the tour will feel cohesive, because at each stop there will be a cane sugar Mexican Coke to wash down your meal.

Back in LA for today. Tomorrow to Boston for a wedding and then to
Vermont for a week to visit with my parents.

Thank you mumblelard. Wicked! is still very much in style, particularly in New England where my parents live. Although they don't say it. My dad says "cool!" and that's cutting edge, all things considered.
