Watching Newsmax and trump rally coverage to try to understand these people. They all speak a lot about patriotism and the flag. Say it is no longer Republicans v Dems it is Patriots v Traitors etc. Wave their USA flags. So the way to burst their bubble is to indict trump for treason for stealing and selling classified documents. Other charges will not cut through

Well he can always go lower. We thought he had bottomed out many times before. The photo today of him holding the baseball bat beside the photo of DA Alvin Bragg would get some people arrested on its own. This has all become even more urgent. Secret classified documents are at increased risk of being sold and US agents abroad can be compromised. How Trump is being allowed to speak at Waco Texas this weekend on the 30th Anniversary of the Branch Davidian tragedy is beyond me. It could become the next low.

I have never understood why Australians are considering giving even more money to most of these farmers. Surely they are the ones causing the damage to the planet with methane emissions and using water that should be in streams and rivers. Need to be convicted and fined not subsidised

These are good times for New Zealand. About as good as any time since the early 60s. There may well be some challenging economic times ahead. Now is a good time to be paying back debt and saving up for a "rainy day". Where are the policies to get the 340,000 beneficiaries working? In Japan you get a 6 month chance. It is not a career choice. What would you think about this? It gives people a chance to do some retraining and to maybe move to a place that has more jobs. Seems to work fine there

Mallard was the clown who lost us the 2003 World Cup shared hosting rights to the Aussies. He was the sports minister at the time. I can remember him abusing the IRB chairman Pugh and the head of Aussie rugby. Pretty much zero idea of how the world works and unable to imagine the flow on benefits for NZ from an event like that. All he needed to do was pay off a few advertisers and box holders and we would have had half the games including a home semifinal at Eden Park and how many times do we lose there?

Guns are everywhere here on the Gold Coast. People have them under the counters in their shops. There stories of shootings on the news regularly. Gun laws do not make a scrap of difference. Mindset and maturity make the difference

What would be so bad about requiring politicians to have 5 years of experience in running a business and say 2 years experience working overseas?
We pay for these people to work for us why can we not set some guidelines that will filter the quality of people we get?

Very good. I realised that the Green Party had lost its collective mind when they did not automatically banish Turei when she voluntarily bragged about stealing taxpayer money when she was a single mother. It was obvious that she and the party had no concept what the public thought of this kind of thing. She clung on for 2 weeks or so hoping that the issue would go away. I explained in a Greens Facebook group that by trying to remain an MP she would kill any chance of the party getting 5% of the vote. I was called all kinds of things including a fascist and heartless and an angry white man. At that time you may remember they had 15% or so popularity in the polls. In short they were all completely deluded. I was actually one of the original leaders of the party back 22 years or so ago. I was then removed from the FB group and a few days later Turei resigned. Things seem to have gone progressively down hill since then. I was brought up as an environmentalist I had no choice really. The Green Party should be disbanded and a replacement made with strict rules about only discussing nature. Not hate speech and feminism and unemployment benefits.

Agree. Unless Greens go back to being about the environment they are toast. NZ First is also unlikely to make the 5% threshold next year either. Will be almost straight National v Labour division of seats in parliament. Probably best for everyone like that anyway

Greens are in fast decline. From 14% to 10% to 6% in the past 3 elections. Their environmental policies are now not much different from Labor. Gareth Hughes is a good guy. Consistent and sensible. Shaw is OK but a lightweight. Without the I do not think the Greens would even get 2% of the vote next election.
From Wikipedia "The Green Party was founded to counter what it sees as the threats to the natural environment".
I am sure that nearly all of the original supporters have or are about to jump ship. Probably to Labour.

Zero way that Greens will get 5% of vote next election if this woman is on their list. Need to go back to roots and the reason for the party which was to protect the environment. Sure they need a general policy on other matters but they only shoot themselves in the foot when they discuss anything but the environment

What the heck happened to the Green Party? When it started it was only about preserving a pristine New Zealand where we could drink from rivers and streams and lakes like we did as kids. Something that presumably everybody wanted. It was a split off from the Values Party and others from there went over to Alliance with Jim Anderton or to Labour. Somehow the party has been hijacked. Golriz appears to have never once mentioned environmental issues. Pretty much the same for Ms Davidson and Ms Turei before her. How did they ever get to have anything to do with the Green Party?
Same thing has happened in Australia but to a lesser extent. Is really frustrating for us who care about the environment

The craziness of MMP exposed right here. The parties should not be able to make up their own lists. The people who make it to parliament should be the ones who get the most votes. So if say a Green Party candidate got say 2,000 votes in another electorate then they would be chosen over someone who gets 1400 in Te Atatu. We would get better politicians this way
