Heartland clearly is not among that cadre of individuals.

Re: Political brainwashing endangers Marysville schools’ funding - Marysville Globe

In response to Zpino -

Heartland is hardly a reputable think-tank - they are a sham public relations group for tobacco and big oil:

- In 2006, Heartland tried to convince the world that there was "little danger in cigarette smoke" (http://www.huffingtonpost.c...

- In 2008, they published a false list of scientist they claimed would deny global warming existed - 500+ people on that list (Dr. Robert Whittaker, Dr. David Sugden, Dr. Svante Bjorck, etc.) were outraged to learn that Heartland falsely included them, since they did believe global warming was an issue. (http://www.desmogblog.com/5...

- In 2009, Heartland contridicted its organizational position and acknowledged global warming, but then said it wasn't man-made (http://www.scientificameric...

The truth is that Heartland isn't a credible group - they are a political attack-dog public relations consortium that doesn't understand how to build 'real science' - instead, they try to smear people who disagree with them. I do agree that a science classroom is a place where hypotheses are tested and data is collected - but those hypotheses must come from credible sources.

Find yourself a better fan club; Heartland isn't credible.

Re: Political brainwashing endangers Marysville schools’ funding - Arlington Times

Come on, Alan... really!

You seem to be ignoring the fact that Heartland was the group brought on by Phillip Morris and R.J. Reynolds in the 90s to run a national campaign denying that cigarette smoke was dangerous (http://www.desmogblog.com/h... - perhaps in your household,

Alan, industry propaganda is seen as gospel, but I think most regular Americans are more intelligent than Mr. Alan Caruba would assume. So, the Heartland Institute... I suggest Mr. Caruba find some more credible, 'wholesome' role model group to defend so vigorously.

For the record, my pro-science/math record in Marysville stands on its own merits. I am sure that if you ask the science department heads (or read my past pro-science editorials in regional papers - including in this one), you'll see that my logic and reasoning on the matter, is indeed sound. Check for yourself, Alan - contact any of our science teachers and ask them directly.

Finally, I would assume that if any Heartland supporters has any real concern about my leadership in Marysville, that they would step up an challenge me in the next election (I didn't see you name on the ballot, Alan). That's the democratic way of resolving these matters - certainly not the impotent tact of throwing unfounded criticism from the sidelines.

Progress is achieved by strengthening your own arguments - not by attempting to cut your opponents down. If you have anything intelligent to say on the matter, Alan, feel free to call me directly.

Michael Kundu
