Math." Thumbs up. Talk about a typical Jason-ism.

Another observation related to SMBs attraction to Facebook over Google is the ease of use of the Ad platform versus AdWords. Sure, AdWords has cosmetically evolved, but the ease of use hasn't improved much over the last 10 years, especially for the average SMB trying to manage their own campaigns. Beyond just the behavioral data both owned by Facebook and/or the advertiser and third-party data that Facebook is bringing to the table, the level of knowledge it takes for SMBs to see decent ROAS via Facebook is pretty nominal, and, to me, that makes it much more attractive than AdWords.

Re: Top 20 Email Marketing Slideshare Presentations

Thanks for the mention. I realize the point is not to quibble about the product. I'm also not defending the product decisions nor doing cartwheels about them. How they left touch ID out of this update baffles me, but there just seems to be a lack of acknowledgment around the innovation that has occurred to create these products regardless of whether you like or are impressed with the new features or not. In addition, as a guy that has spent his share of time at tables discussing brand and campaign strategy as much as you have, I'm surprised you don't give the "pencil" ad more credit for just how smart it is. Sure this year's ads haven't been their best, but that one is good.

Re: If You Can’t Afford It Apple Doesn’t Want You

Oi vey, where to begin with this post? Other than your main point, I don't think I've ever been so disappointed by one of your posts. Underwhelming or not, that thinness also reduces the weight of the product by a third. That is huge, and if you aren't impressed by that benefit and the innovation required to make it happen then I think your expectations of Apple are entirely too high.

Re: What To Do About Gmail Tabs

Couldn't agree more with Kyle and your sentiments. One point of clarification. Google has rolled tabs out to the Gmail iOS and Android apps. So, if you have the tabs on your desktop, the mobile app has them too. Will be interesting to see if they roll it out to the Android native mail app and if a later version of iOS' native app will accommodate them too.

Re: A Social Media Customer Service Win From @DeltaAssist

Jessica, such a great story. I had a similar experience with @DeltaAssist last year. While heading to the UK, my LAX to ATL flight was delayed 2 hours, effectively rendering my 90 minute layover obsolete. To make matters worse, one of those hours being stuck on the runway with no way to call customer service.

As soon as we were airborne, I powered up my Mac, hopped on the wifi, and sent them a tweet. They were able to contact the gate and request for the flight to hold if possible. Low and behold, I ran up to the gate and the agent remarked, "We were waiting for you." I also got upgraded to BizElite, so that helped too. ;)

Re: Star Trek’s descent into marketing spam darkness

Oh, get over it and go.

Re: What Qualities to Look for in a WordPress Host?

Good tips, Joe. My only issue is the Dreamhost recommendation, even for smaller projects. I was a loyal customer (5+ years) until my wife's, several clients, and my site were hacked. As soon they were, the "friendly" support went out the window. They took a completely hands-off approach. When that happens, you want a host that will help get you through that process. That didn't happen. We've been on WP Engine since then, and love those guys.

Re: Congrats, Baltimore Ravens! However, both Coke and Sodastream had some huge site stability issues. At one point, cokechase was down for 15-20 minutes. Brands gotta be better prepared with that size of audience.

Re: Why Email Volume Won’t Decrease

As you mention, Holmes has a point on the business side, especially within large-savvy organizations. You are seeing SO much more usage of internal comm tools such as Podio, Chatter, Yammer, Asana etc. Is it impacting email? Maybe internally, especially amongst IT, web, marcomm teams in those savvy companies. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

Now on the consumer side, you couldn't be more right. Email volume isn't going down, especially in the near term. More organizations are creating more targeted, personalized campaigns leading to increased consumer engagement and, shockingly, consumers asking for more email (see Fab.com for a perfect example). Beyond the social hooks, there is a HUGE chunk of revenue being driven from email. Maybe Holmes needs to have a conversation or two with the ecomm guys at the top 20 shopping/retail sites. That may alter his thinking.

Thanks for the post.

Re: Test

Testing.

Re: Howdy, Edelman!

Congrats, Tim.
