Don't think it's as drastic as you think—it sits much lower than a conventional car…think of the front as a reservoir tip on a condom. (It's also so the mirrors don't stick out…)

There's something about sedans from that era that doesn't click until you see one in person. I saw a Maserati Quattroporte III a few weeks ago while visiting L.A. and it looked like a space ship on the road. Looked awesome.

Very much agreed, and actually, the 1.5 was very nearly the first Ogle I was going to talk about, simply because it's—as you say—quite amazing. Sort of like an Aston Martin Cygnet, in reverse-ish…

It just means that R-R—or whomever wrote that book—was just as heavy-handed with the description…probably because back then race/skin colour was an easy (and cowardly) way to look at people and problems. Hell, it took the U.S. until 1964 to produce the Civil Rights Act.
