I appreciate all the work that goes into NativeScript but having a major release without documentation makes the decision to use it much more difficult.

Whether the docs have been updated or not, it's frustratingly non-obvious which version they relate to at all.

Re:

That alone is not the same as "unlocking" – the device will still only work with your original carrier.

Re: Why you can go to jail for 5 years for unlocking your cellphone

I don't agree that "of course you don't own it". You may not pay full price for the device at the time of purchase but the cost of the phone is built into the often lengthy service contract. When that contract is up, often you will have paid a lot more for the phone than the RRP of an unlocked device, even if you subtract service cost.

And I'm not even sure i understand the issue from the carriers perspective. Unlocking your phone does not get you out of your contact. They'll sill get your cash for the next 12/18/24 months. What's the issue?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S III is hot: bursts into flames and melts through its own casing

90 degrees? Why not just make the full 16GB available?

I know 2GB will be fine for /most/ apps but it means something like Rage HD (782MB on iOS) and a handful of others are still largely out of the question.

Maybe I'm alone but I don't store many HD videos on my phone, and music is mostly streamed via Google Music or Spotify. Would prefer to be able to load the occasional gratuitously large app or game than have that 16GB reserved exclusively for media.

Re: Is Apple Killing The “iPod” Brand?

Does the iPod Touch have an iPod app?

I think this change makes sense. iPod is the physical device , whether it's touch or classic. iPods and iPhones both have Music apps.

Re: 99% Of Android Phones Leak Sensitive Information

Very misleading article title.

And would this not be the same session hijacking that's possible with any machine using unencrypted communication over open networks?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

i.e. not good, but not like my Android phone is just spewing out my home address and credit card details as I walk down the street.

Re: Apple To Launch Apple HDTV In 2011 – Report

$2k sounds a bit mad, no? Depends what's inside but I'm thinking my 40 inch Bravia was €650 more than a year ago, and a full mac mini to plug into it would be around €700... that's quite a saving and gives me a full mac os-x machine to play with.

So yeah, depends what's inside. It's very much the same system.

Though I agree re: manufacturer's custom UI's which are often aggressively bolted on top of the (in my opinion) much nicer and cleaner stock Android interface. One of the biggest problems being how it messes with the update cycle.

I used HTC's Sense UI (one of the better ones) on my Desire for the first few months and while I liked it fine, it wasn't until I got stuck in and started to *really* customize things with a community built ROM and original Android UI that I ended up really loving the device.

For me, that's fine. I like tinkering with gadgets and spending an evening or two changing this and hacking that is all good fun. But it would have me at least considering iPhone or others if I were buying a phone for someone less technically minded. Certainly annoying that you can read a glowing review of "Android" (*Nexus S) and then pick up a HTC, Samsung, Motorolla, whatever, and think "eh, wtf?".

Re: Acer reveals 4.8-inch Android smartphone with 1024x480 screen resolution

Or one data plan and wifi hotspot / tethering. Surely makes little difference to Skype whether it's a 3G connection or not? Could be they're just looking for extra cash where they can get it but wouldn't be surprised if the networks (and/or Apple on their behalf) are applying pressure here.

As I mentioned to you on Twitter, what about 3rd party clients and devices that don't have the built-in restrictions of iPhone? Fring on Android for instance (and I think on iPhone too at the moment?), does Skype-to-Skype as well as Google Talk voice calls.

I'll be less annoyed if this is entirely Skypes themselves calling the shots - you can always move to a different software or service if you don't like their terms - but if it's the networks and/or Apple, it sets a bad precedent.
