Jobs are all very well, but the right to own your own means of production and determine your own future is also pretty important I think.

Re:

I've got that, and I knitted the Kilim jacket from it years ago, then did some remodelling on it last year to make it wearable in Sydney's warmer winters ( http://manainkblog.typepad..... Elderly people have medical procedures like pacemaker installations every day here in Australia. A friend's 92-year-old father recently had long and complex surgery, which he is recovering well from. Contrary to what you have read, health-care in Australia, NZ and the UK is *not* rationed on people's ages; it is rationed on medical need. And we can have health insurance as well if we want to - I do - and part of the premium is tax-deductible becuase it frees up room in the system for people who can't afford it.

And Joe, I hate the DISQUIS thing too.

Re: QueerJoe's Knitting Blog

We got rid of 1c and 2c coins here years ago,. When I got to the hairdresser to get my colour lifted (isn't that a great expression?) I need my specs so I can knit while I'm under the infernal dryer. But the dye might stain the ear pieces, so someone has invented these long plastic sleeves to slide over them. I always refer to them as the condoms for safe specs.

Re:

I work for a very large institution that has a very set format for performance reviews. I participate in them both as reviewee and as an advisor to our reviewer on the people who've been working for me this year (our staff move round a lot and every manager they've worked for gets to enter the discussion.) I like them personally, although I prefer to be the reviewee than to have to talk to people about their performance, which I find really difficult. It's a good chance to list all the things I've accomplished this year, and to think about what I'd like to improve. Like Sarah T I also get the chance to list courses I'd like to take, conferences I'd like to attend etc.

Re: Photoblogging :: Toronto Solo Drive

I am so jealous!
