I just wish his vision hadn’t grown into something quite so corporate.” seems misguided at best. Many of Walt's dreams were corporate in their very nature.

Re: Clear Eyes, Full Shelves - Website Login

Love Dis Post

Re: “There’s Something I Need To Tell You...”S4 / E5

I thought Peter Krause tonight was amazing. Like some of the most spectacular acting I've ever seen on TV (or anywhere). When Haddie asks How he's doing and he loses composure for a second and his expression go sideways. I mean I've seen my dad do that. It brought me back to every tough moment in my family, my mother's breast cancer, my deads heart surgery. I saw it all. I don't know that I've cried like that at a show/movie before.

Re: http://decoarchitecture.tumblr.com/post/9710184390

This is the Los Angeles County Hospital at its opening in 1930 (it's now know as the LAC + USC Medical Center and it s the heart of USC Health Sciences Campus)

Re: Disney Parks Debuts Florida Television Commercial for ‘Summer Nightastic’ – But for Which Resort?

Obviously the castle is from Walt Disney World, although it theoretically could be form Tokyo Disneyland. Bad show all over. Dumbing down the quality of your attractions is a terrible idea, while seemingly an easy one to make. The affect that the Disco Yeti (love the phrase) has on the Audience is little, that moving Yetti could capture some child's imagination or some adult's that is the type of thing that reminds someone of why they trust Disney and why they return to Walt Disney World. It is Disco Yetis in their various incarnations across the park that are costing Disney older visitors, repeat visitors and future visitors. (My Disco Yetis I mean the dumbing down to save a buck!.)

I hope that Disney decides it's time for Beastly Kingdom or at least another E-Ticket in order to take the pressure off Expedition Everest and hence banish the Disco Yeti forever!

Matt

PS. I'm just commenting all over your website today :)

Re: Studio Backlot Tour: Off With Its Head!

I know I'm a little late, but I just read this article and I love your thinking. As someone who has been alive for almost all of Disney-MGM's Existence, but doesn't remember the live studio part, I find it endlessly fascinating. Similarly I love the fact that real and very good animation happened there. I'm sad that they shut it down after it produced a big hit for them (Lilo & Stich). But I agree about the backlot tour, it is no longer a back lot and hence the tour should go. Although please keep the animation building and the water tour!

Now I've seen it thrown around multiple places that it should become more magic kingdom-y with lands themed to studios. I frankly love this idea. You get a place to put new Marvel attractions (eventually...), Pixar Attractions, Any Disney Attractions, you could have a television section (since it is hollywood), or genres of movies. WHATEVER! but themed lands with themed areas! Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd are some of the best "Place-making" Disney has done in the past 20 years (Tokyo Disney Sea excluded). That is shown out by DCA's TURRIBLE (in the words of Charles Barkley) Hollywood Pictures Backlot.

Of course the type of changes I'm talking about mean changing not just the Backlot Tour, but that is certainly a starting point. Another studios (almost already set up) Muppet Studios! or Jim Henson or whatever. This calls for the destruction of all Lot style buildings. Of course that leaves some crushing questions I don't have answers for like What do you do with the Sci-Fi Diner (a personal favorite)? I also think that Echo Lake needs to stay, but it certainly doesn't fit. What's at the end of Sunset BLVD a TV themed land? My solution leaves things very messy for a while, but puts the park on the right track and still allows for the company to have easy promotion! or give another properties easy promotion.

Let me know your thoughts! I enjoyed the great read Scott!

Matt

Re: Countdown to Mystery Team: Win an Autographed DVD!

I have a psychic connection with my iPhone, I used it to pick songs and text people. I am inherently interested in this type of discussion as both a fan of movies and gay man. While I think your conclusion gets the right idea earlier on it seems like your saying that this is a change that has come. I think for some reason Hollywood views NPH as unique, which is ridiculous. Well, what I mean is unique for his ability to play both play straight men and be a gay man. I'm hoping you're right that this is progress or the beginning of it and not just a short blip, a historical curiosity.

Re: Are the Disney Characters on Twitter Authentic?

This whole thing is positively preposterous. (Sorry I like alliteration.) Would you start reading a blog if it said when I get one thousand hits I'll start writing a good blog? Of course not. Why would you pay attention, buy in, etc when there is no content. Disney (I would hope) is smart enough to know that there must be content in order to draw people in. No one should follow anyone until they have a reason to and if they "might tweet something once they get 1000 followers" is enough for you, go ahead.

Re: /Film UK - Crying With Laughter, The London Film Museum, Penelope: Princess of Pets and Much More

I'm really glad you comprehensively reviewed the Dumbo Bluray. I t was scheduled for release stateside in early February they ran ads for it Entertainment Weekly. Disney even went so far as to Screen it at the El Capitan in Hollywood like they do with all of their re-releases. Then the release date came and nothing happened. Somehow it got pushed back a year at the last minute although you can get it in Mexico.

I was luckily able to see it at the El Capitan while it was playing. I have to agree with you, it's the cream of the crop when it comes to the Walt era of Disney films. I think it's my favorite although Snow White is a close second.

You're absolutely right about the depature in style, it has to do with a lot of things, but this was the height of Animator Bill Tytla's power and influence at the studio. Similarly after the strike which took place the same year that Dumbo was released changed Walt Disney's feelings about a lot of things, his employees and Animation as a whole. When you ad in the World War II and the studio's precarious financial position the next real animated feature wasn't until 1950's Cinderella.

By then Walt had a different, much more . . . well, boring opinion about what animation should look like and how things should be animated. Frank (Thomas) and Ollie (Johnston) were the two key animators during this period bringing a much more stiff and lifeless animaton to the Screen.

Early in Walt's foray into animation he was searching for Animators who could show pathos and feeling in their animation in a way that merely animating human behavior couldn't. Bill Tytla's animation he felt was the height of this. Almost all the characters, but Dumbo in particular are a great example of this. It's also extremely evident in Snow White through the Seven Dwarfs.

Michael Barrier delves into the topics in a really interesting way in his biography of Walt Disney: The Animated Man.

Thanks for the great Article.

Re: The /Filmcast: After Dark - Ep. 89 - Movie Subtitles and the Sadness of Richard Schickel

The tagline that I thought of throughout the discussion was: Your Mind Is The Scene of the Crime from Inception. I love them. I'm not sure if Movie Studios know this but there is a very large talented group of people who act, sing, and Dance in Musicals for a living and they're very good at it. These people would also love to do a musical on screen. I understand that they want stars in their movies but Musivals have large audiences because they're generally very wholesome and conform to societal values and quality is better than Stars. I didn't mean to sound condesending above it's just that the cast of Damn Yankees at City Hall was great and even included some known talent.

Re: By Downey’s Beard - Is Tony Stark Going To Cameo In Thor?
