The test machine I use sporadically, works flawlessly.

I'm aware that a lot of people cannot connect to networks at all. This is because a lot of functionality is not yet implemented in the driver, and I purposely restricted/simplified many things to keep things manageable in the beginning. Such issues will be fixed as development continues.

Re: Project: Camphor

I have a 32bit only machine, I will check whether it is possible to cross-compile a 64bit binary or not. If not, I will source some other way to do this. I'm planning to support all kinds of (OS X) platforms in the near future, but it is too early and resources are limited, so I've restricted myself to 32 bit Leopard for now.

Re: Project: Camphor

By not releasing the 3945 source code yet, what exactly am I cheating you of?

Re: Project: Camphor

The driver can be compiled for SL, but it depends on VoodooWireless binary which is not SL compatible yet (will soon be).

Re: Project: Camphor

I will start work on 4965/5100 drivers soon. People like you piss me off. EVERYONE knows it is possible to replace the wifi card for 10 bucks. DO IT. Hell, I've bought a Broadcom card myself.

But for chrissake stop acting as if I owe you anything.

Re: Preparing to land: Intel 3945 for OS X is here!

Great points. I'll address them here-

1. First off, I don't have the resources neither the willingness to turn this into a business. All I'm looking for is to get reasonably compensated for my time. So charging per download and stuff like that probably won't happen. Basically voluntary donations (at least so far) with a clear indication of how much I expect and how much I've received, seems to be the most reasonable way to go.

2. Any kind of copy protection is not going to work - remember this is a community of hackers!

3. The SDK *will* be released. You (or anyone else) can write HALs for their wifi cards, no problem. I'm waiting until at least a couple of drivers (i.e. 2200 & 3945) are done so that I know what the VoodooWireless layer should include. This will prevent having to make incompatible API changes later on. For example, after writing 3945 driver, I realized that association logic should be integrated into VoodooWireless with pre-and-post assoc notifications sent to the HAL. Once these issues are ironed out, the SDK will be available for all (with two HAL implementations to boot)

4. I am actually planning something quite the opposite of what you suggest, as far as what source code to release. I think the VoodooWireless architecture has some commercial value, so I will keep the implementation private for now, and release the kext binary plus header sourcecode, packaged as an SDK framework, just like Apple does. I will, however, release full sourcecode for the 2200/3945 and other HALs. They are based on FreeBSD open source drivers, so as an ethics issue, I am obligated to release the sourcecode. Also, I am more likely to have left in bugs or missing features in the HALs since I either don't have the hardware, or don't properly understand how the hardware works. The community is better equipped to fix problems or add features, so releasing the sourcecode will be very useful.

5. VoodooWireless, on the other hand is well tested (so far), and there is exactly one non-Apple person in the world today who can make meaningful contribution to it. In my opinion we are unlikely to find (m)any other contributors to it (else there would've been some commercial or opensource projects or at least attempts for Airport compatibility already). I'm not hypothesizing here -- my experience with Voodoo kernel and related open source projects show that simply opening up the source doesn't bring much benefit; in fact it leads to more chaos in our particular scenario (i.e. OSx86/hackintosh scene). Hence I intend to keep the .cpp files to myself for now, but still let the community take full advantage of the framework, by releasing the SDK. If at any point, though, I run out of time or decide to quit, I'll release the source code (ie. it won't die with me).

Re: Preparing to land: Intel 3945 for OS X is here!

Soon.. 2200 is mostly usable already, it just needs a couple of bugfixes, so I've been postponing it and focusing on 3945 instead.

Re: Preparing to land: Intel 3945 for OS X is here!

Your figures appear a bit wrong - are you sure only 100 people want this driver? I'm willing to bet at least 100 times more people want it.

Also, fully-supported broadcom wireless chips are selling for $5 including shipping, on eBay. I've got one myself.
