Marjorie, a sincere thank you for raising this issue at the debate. It is extremely important to me right now and it is about civil rights. I am tired of saying the pledge of allegance and at the end where we say "with liberty and justice for all" I say except for gays. We all have to talk about it. Make it be as normal as being left handed. Mr Romero....how do you feel about left handed people? Mayor Chavez how do you feel about left handed people?? The answer for this question should be whattttt???? There is no problem for me with left handed people! Same answer should be about gays. No hemming and hawing. No thinking for an instant about the political fall out. Just say the word GAY! GAY GAY GAY!

I say..no nukes no bombs yes healthcare.
If we took just 25 percent of the money for defense spending and applied it to healthcare. we would be covered, all of us. And why are we spending so much on military?? to protect us right? well no sense in protecting a dead and dying population.

Segmentis...sad about your family member...if he was over 65 and on medicare i bet he would have gotten the tests he needed. He probably had insurance that made it more difficult for him to get approved for the MRI.
That is the problem in my view. All of the presenters here go on in depth. Basically people want health care, pretty simple. It can be done. The insurance companies dont have to fold up...they will stay in business...everyone who wants to stay with the private insurance run healthcare can. Those who want to go into the government run healthcare can. Your choice, free market.
What I see is smoke screens, complaining, manipulating truths, excuses of why not? Let the people die I guess....or get in shape as the Dr says.
This is about human lives and suffering. It is not about money. Healthcare for profit should be banned. It is life and death. My hope is that some of our Drs. took their hippocratic oath seriously...to help people, to help people with their ailments. To use their art of healing and knowing to help sick people.
And dont get me started on the number of pill commercials on TV. How can that be right. Take this pill but you can not get to a doctor?

Thank you for this forum. I hope it makes a difference in this time of real need for education on a critical issue.
There must be more than the 41 mil to 45 mil people without insurance that number has not moved substantially for years and years...maybe year 2000 or before. The uninsured must be at twice that by now....80 mil.?? and not even counting the underinsured. I wish there was real current data on that number. If anyone has any please share.
Funny I have never ever worried that a doctor was going to prescribe too many tests, I worry the opposite the right test willnot be ordered due to costs.
Imagine if we treated our citizens healthcare needs as our security needs. The billions that go to defense. The 2 bil a week still going to Iraq and Afganistan. Meanwhile the enemy is within the borders a sick work force hanging on by a thread. If the swine flu did take off I can only imagine.
We are the (or were the) richest country in the world. I can not imagine what will be the result if we do nothing or if this fails. Walking over people dying in the streets? third world?? fourth world??
