Bangers! Bravo! This comment thread was exponentially more interesting then the article. :)

Also, veganism... yea it's funny watching people deny hundreds of thousands of years of human evolution and nature, saying "Eat meat or you will die (probably)", based on moral grounds but hey, everyone is entitled to live their life the way they want. I just wish that humans could keep their beliefs to themselves instead of trying to influence others and society though. I suppose that society *IS* simply people trying to influence eachother, with the resulting outcome being what the majority feels. By god I hope that meatism can fight back against veganism!

Re: Facebook Raises $1.5 Billion At $50 Billion Valuation

Honestly I think universities and grad schools will become more valuable for the connections you can get while studying there, then the actual teaching they provide.

Even now, with sufficient motivation you can get pretty much whatever degree you want without ever going full time to a campus somewhere. Instead, the direct face to face access you get with professionals and (sometimes) famous thought leaders in your fields of interest is where (an already is to some extent) the reason for actually going to a university will come.

In reality, no-one but the most gifted get anywhere on their own, so in the future, considering these previous two points, I see universities becoming more like social "clubs" and networking points then places where the emphasis is on study and learning from professors.

Ideally, the university experience would be about interacting with and launching projects with like-minded individuals while being given the opportunity to directly network with thought leaders while the whole [study/learn/test] block would be extremely open, available in multiple formats by multiple *teachers* (not professors forced into teaching). Students would also be able to select from multiple regimes based on how quickly they want to learn and how much external motivation they require to get that learning done. Ex. some people can learn extremely well on their own without much external motivation, however, a large majority of people *need* someone that they are accountable to to kick their ass into gear periodically.

Though, I think that universities are going to be loath to let go of their stranglehold over government funding and the whole learning process.. that's actually the biggest block to progressive reform in our advanced learning institutions.

Plus, large companies love being lazy and just judging a new hire based on what university they attended... wouldn't it suck if they had to actually judge each hire on their individual merits and ability to learn and motivation to work instead of just doing resume scanning? -_-

Re: Why the Lean Start-Up Changes Everything - Harvard Business Review

To continue reading... blah blah blah. Perhaps the engine is running at 60 FPS while the stream is only sending out at 15 or 20 updates per second... I believe the "Source" engine allows for this, as it's crucial for games such as left 4 dead where there is a need for lots of positional changes, albeit with decreased accuracy being acceptable.

Re: Objects

Yes absolutely. State machine AI method and having the NPC class be by itself. The lookup would mainly be used to assign damage to an NPC object when a projectile collision is detected on the box2d instance. In that case Box2d collision event -> lookup NPC object via ige lookup -> subtract health from NPC object.

Re: Objects

Mainly just seeing how fast the ID lookup is compared to just keeping an array where the ID is used as the array locational value... since the PC/NPC object lists will be hit more then any other data structure in most games, it makes sense to put them together with an efficient structure..

Re: Objects

Just thinking about for a game's primary player and NPC object arrays whether to just have all of the player/npc objects attached to the IGE scene graph, and then access them later by ID (not sure how fast the lookup is on this), or to just create a separate, ID sorted player/NPC array.

Re: Objects

Is there some way to search objects attached to the ige instance? If i'm reading this right, smart textures are basically just vector image code snippets? Hopefully the new docs will have some info about manipulating/importing bitmap/vector images in the engine. :)

Re: Super-Quick 1.1.0 Update

Awesome.

Re: Finnish engineers use earth’s magnetic field for indoor map navigation

Yea, this tech seems like it could supersede GPS since they both can reliably position someone on the earth.

Re: Over 100,000 Gmail accounts also exposed in Yahoo hack

Good advice meghan.

Re: Pioneer Legends, 1.1.0 Pre-Launch Info & Pancakes

Very beautiful game.
