I mean, that aside just speaks to the general cluelessness of this piece. You're ignoring fundamental changes to the Hot 100. For example, the ones that allowed multiple songs by artists to chart much more easily in the post-iTunes era — songs don't have to be proper radio singles in order to make the chart, because digital sales and, more recently, streaming data are incorporated into each song's chart point total.

As I've said before, I've actually put forth the notion that lessening the pressure on him might help him grow as a person (and I still stand behind that). And I am calling him out for being a gross sexist on Twitter EARLIER THIS WEEK, when he was slut-shaming his ex. You know what, though? He still has a fair amount of privilege and clout. Yes, he's quite disliked by a vocal number of people, but he also has a large number of fans, as this comment section can attest. Dude needs to grow up and examine his actions and look at *why* people might dislike him, instead of throwing tantrums and engaging in inept PR moves -- the latter of which this was.

I am very much not a wolf. I treat artists more fairly than a lot of other writers out there, and have even in the past put forth the idea that maybe giving Brown a bit of a break would allow him to grow. But when they engage in bullshit behavior, which that Twitter session was (and rest assured I'm just as disgusted by Meek Mill and the horribly gross Drake) I'm going to call them on it. Especially if it involves them using their stations as powerful men to reinforce patriarchal ideas re: who can be sexual and who can't. Because for heterosexual men to act on their urges, they *need* women to have and act on them as well, and to punish women for doing just that is incredibly shitty.

I avoid puffery like "Grammy-winning" in my writing as a rule unless it's directly relevant to the subject at hand. (Ask the people I edit.) His Grammy for his past work really isn't relevant to the events of the last few days.

I actually went to great paints to debunk the "bought a Grammy" rumor on Facebook and in other places. It had zero credibility (why people don't Google so-called "official statements" in order to see if they're actually *official* will never cease to boggle my mind). But for Brown to ride the coattails of a beloved figure *who was an avowed feminist* while snickering about a woman's sexual history is noxious.
