I can relate. I'm not as afraid of heights as you are but am definitely much more nervous about them now than when I was a kid and would blithely climb 50 feet up in a tree without thinking twice. I am OK on commercial airliners as long as they are traveling as smoothly as if you are sitting in your living room. The second there is any turbulence it's white knuckle time for me. I have even been known to actually let loose a scream (how embarassing) when the plane does one of those sudden drops due to clear-air turbulence. My husband laughs at me. Glad you finally got to the beach and enjoyed it, and had a great meal in the Old Town. Greece sounds wonderful, I must get there someday. It's on my list.

This is totally me. I have enough books sitting around that I could be tided over for the next year without ordering any new ones. Of course I just had to order yours, so I'll have another one to read! ;-)

Same with clothes, and items in my pantry! I never had to hoard food for Y2K, I knew I could live on what was in my house for 6 months at least!

Congratulations! What an ordeal! I loved this tale of woe - it was such a typically French experience from the little I know of it! I laughed out loud at "They noted on my chart that I am blind."

Exactly! It's apparently the way to get them to do what you want. It's a helpful book, perhaps you can find it on Amazon.com. I don't remember the author's name at the moment but I'm sure it would pop up.

LOL, I can totally relate to your terror of French bureaucracy. Did you ever read the book, "French or Foe"? It's hilarious and explains a lot of what works in France. For instance, the author advises you always tell whoever it is a good story about WHY you need to do whatever it is you want to do and then they will be happy to help you.

I am so with you! Even if we could just organize the Northeast, California and the Northwest to secede from the Union peacefully, we could start our own country where people make sense and are actually committed to human rights, solving problems and moving forward. I feel as if there are lots of people in the U.S. that share our mindset but we're stuck in this union with a bunch of other yahoos who just don't think the same way. Anyone who lived in the other states and wanted to join us could always move to the United States of Liberals or whatever wanted to call it!
